Maybe a dab of muriatic acid would help hasten the rusting process of the hardware you used?

I always save the rubber washers from shock absorbers when I replace them. They work well for tail pipe hanger insulation as well as other assorted tasks.

Thanks for the clarification. Never knew exactly why but when I worked as a mechanic at a local dairy in the '70's I was well aware of the result of an out of phase driveshaft in a Divco milk truck.

Balance issue as I understand it. All I know is that if its not phased properly there will be a noticeable vibration when driving.

Looks like a Watson or similar auxiliary trans. Wonder if its an over, direct, and under unit? Had one in a '40 1 1/2 ton flatbed I had. Better than a 2 speed rear end most of which were low and...
