I used to have the standpipe and pencil filter. -and would still have problems, took them out, filled and sloshed -- drained till most was gone, left the standpipe/filter out, went for a long drive...

When the oil is at the proper level some is sucked up into the mesh when it drains back it carries dirt with it so the mesh is pretty much self cleaning

I got to watch it happen with my smiths compresser. I had the oil level to the middle of the letter "F", the owners instruction book for the car says "up to the f", once it expelled the excess oil it...

use punch trough the 2 holes for lower plate bolts to remove lower race
I used a thick rubber O-ring instead of the cork seal between the housings
Are you going to use the original needle bearing...

I read a article about motorcycle fork oils, ATF is rated as good in it's viscosity range, and tractor multi viscosity transmission oil had a good rating ---depending on how worn the socks are

There are lens reflector units that take H4 bulbs, they can be 6V(many voltages and wattages in H4 bulbs), would be direct fit --no modifications in place of seal beam

I cured the hot ammeter with new nuts and soldering the bolt heads to the internal metal--- then I had to take it apart again to paint the cleaned brass and solder flat black because I could see it
