Re: Timing? Coil? need help!

Thank you for the responses. I do have quite a bit of experience with cars and engines. To be honest, I have never been good with electrical or ignition. I've always had a hard time wrapping my...

Re: Timing? Coil? need help!

When it is idling, there is a definite change with the spark lever. Sounds like maybe no one is thinking timing may be off? Before all of this, I could drive the car around 52 MPH and it seemed...

Re: Timing? Coil? need help!

I will check the volts. I never had to adjust the lever before. I was full advance on the road. It did it on a flat road at about 45 or so miles per hour tonight. Its only about 35 degrees out...

Timing? Coil? need help!

So I had discussed how my car had died. It ended up that the pad on the points had worn off. I put new points and condenser in the car. I timed it with a light as said in the book, and got it...

Re: Temp gauge all over the place

Thank you. To be honest, I have not checked the water in a little while, but when I checked the oil it was nice and clean, no milk. I think it is probably good, but I will check. As far as the...

Temp gauge all over the place

Last night my wife and I took our 49 Tudor to a wedding. It was about an hour and a half each way. The flathead ran great, but on the way home I noticed the temp gauge was showing much hotter than...

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

So I got looking at it this afternoon. The pad on the points arm had wore down and closed the points. I then took the points out and reinstalled. I now don't have spark when I ground the coil...

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

I wasn't aware of private messages. I will check the points gap again as well, to see if that is an issue. I had only put about 125 or so miles on since the last time I had gapped them, but I will...

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

I was actually wondering about that cam gear, because I had to open up the points to gap them. I was wondering if it was wearing down. I just need to get in the shop! Stupid work!
Thanks again...

Re: Model A Fords to be with us for a LONG time yet

I'm 45. I have 3 Model A's now. Most people my age that I know don't get it. I also notice I am usually the youngest guy when we go to functions. My kids are all into the old cars though, so I am...

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

Thank you. Not totally sure I follow, but I will check it out. Especially if the points are off again. I did order points and condenser for it as well.

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

I did take the plug out of the bowl. I had fuel flowing steady there. I did not check the cap, but I will try that as well. Wish I didn't have to work so I could do more on it!

Re: Model A backfire, can't move

I did retorque the manifold after a short drive. (Once it had cooled again) Are the points and condenser for this something I can get at the parts store, or do I need to go to a Model a site to get...

Model A backfire, can't move

Still new to Model A's, and am having an issue, so I thought I would check with you guys to see if there is an obvious answer. I drove the car today on a little trip about 50 miles each way. Ran...

Re: Model A Sputter

How much did you run in the crankcase? I will also check the carb flange.

Model A Sputter

I just noticed the other day, that my Tudor has started to sputter. You can mainly feel it in high gear, lower speeds, but when going down the highway it seems fine. Also, at a stop sign, the idle...

Re: Balancing an engine at home (Newbie)

I sent Murray a message and he got back to me already! Sounds like he is 4 weeks out. Does this help quite a bit with the vibration? I don't mean to ask so many questions, I just don't understand...

Thanks for all the responses! One thing about all this old junk, is everyone is very helpful! I will try to answer all the best I can.
I got the car from someone who had lost interest. He had the...

Re: Balancing an engine at home (Newbie)

I have been told by other guys that I may be expecting too much from it, but it seems excessive to me. I am hoping to ride in another one so I can compare as well.

Re: Balancing an engine at home (Newbie)

I assume it is the engine, because it will vibrate when I idle and rev the engine. I have float a motor mounts on the rear. I had assumed it was the flywheel before I took the car apart, so I took...

Balancing an engine at home (Newbie)

I have a 30 Tudor that I just got back together. It's my first Model A. I am working to get the bugs out, including a pretty good oil leak. The engine was rebuilt before I got the car. It runs...
