Re: Stuck Head
My head puller:
I started with a 8" x 12" × 1/2" piece of steel from the scrap yard at 35 cents/lb.
1. Drilled and tapped holes for 7/16-20 x 6" bolts that thread through the plate and sit on...

Re: Water Inlet Leak
I don't recall using a cork one. If it's too thick and you do not tighten the bolts evenly I guess you could snap off one of the ears.
This would be more likely for the water outlet where head nut...

They are blind holes.
Remove ALL old gasket material and CLEAN mounting surfaces with a solvent to remove all residue. I use permatex on both surfaces and a paper gasket. A bit of permatex on the...

Radiator Filler Neck Replacement
The filler neck on my '30 original radiator is damaged and needs to be replaced. Since the originals are crimped on and soldered, how is that done?

Re: Fried rear bearing
Schwalms is the place to go.
Strasburg PA is about 250 miles from Yorktown VA. Don't drive I-95 during rush hour or bad weather. Even on beautiful sunny days it's a crap shoot.

I too have Hagerty insurance in Virginia. After reading this thread, I called them and added "Cherished Salvage" coverage to my policy. The additional premium was less than $20/yr. Basically, if...

Re: Bad manifold gaskets
Would it be better to use solid rings made from mild steel or cutting 304 stainless steel rings with a hacksaw to allow some thermal expansion?

Re: Bad manifold gaskets
What about rings cut from 316SS tube (1.500" OD X 16GA (0.065"))? With a significantly higher coefficient than cast iron can they still be solid or is a gap needed for thermal expansion?

Re: Bad manifold gaskets
I've read posts of homemade gland rings made from seamless steel pipe. Do those need to be cut to provide end gap for thermal expansion?

How long have you had the shorter cable? I tried one probably 10 years ago and it was almost too stiff to bend at all. I've heard they are better now. The motor is out right now so I can't check...
