If it is the original 6 volt system it is positive ground,to test the stoplight switch put a jumper between the 2 connections at the stoplight switch,the brake light should go on,some repro switches...

I don't think you replaced the worn worm gear,very difficult and if not done correctly damages the steering shaft,I could be wrong,but 3 inches of free play at center sounds really excessive.

I used a brass kitchen faucet threaded adaptor,it fit in the cross member hole and the shaft on the front mount passed through it,worked.

Cold weather,heavy oil battery has les cranking amps as battery temp. Drops,depress clutch pedal when cranking.

I'm thinking if you have a ammeter in the circuit put the head lights on and the draw on the meter will tell you the amps.

I put a 1929 N.J commercial plate on my ccpu along with the historic plate,both on the rear but the 29 plate is not lighted,never been questioned by law enforcement.(so far)

For the leakdown test take apart an old sparkplug or buy a adaptor from Brattons or Snyders thread in a male adaptor from an airline into the sparkplug base.Hook up your airhose and pump 30 to 35 lbs...

You could always look for another block,talked to a guy in Hershey flea market who had a slew of motors and blocks he was getting rid of,I did not want to drive the 350 miles round trip to pick them...
