Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt.
Me too. No out of pocket because I already owned these... about $7 for the lead/outlet and a couple more for the USB adapter. Even though you're only putting in 6VDC (instead of the 12 it is...

Aretino, thank you. Any post will generate input from members with different perspectives. I have to say – the FORD BARN seems to be populated with a dedicated and respectful following. All of us...

Re: Toe-in tools - easy and accurate
For clarification… or in defense… my setup is definitely “shade tree”, no expensive tools, no garage floor, just a reliable way to check toe-in in spite of not-perfect rims or squiggly tread. And I...

Re: Toe-in tools - easy and accurate
Square tubing... Lowe's, Home Depot, Amazon, etc.
Hack saw... see above
1/2" drill bit (for lug bolt hole)... ditto
And half an hour of your puttering time. Easy, peasy. (Peasy is a word?)

Toe-in tools - easy and accurate
Toe-in tools… I rebuilt all steering components from the steering box to the wheel bearings and decided to re-set the toe-in since everything was rebuilt or new and the old slack was eliminated.

A couple shade tree handy tips...
Rose is a late '31 so I use a 6v fuel shutoff, but it gets pretty warm so I JB'd four aluminum heatsinks to it, helps keep it cooler. (I had to buy a box of them, so I still have 24 sinks left -...

Calculating engine RPM at idle
I was curious how to know my engine’s revs at idle. I tried a HF “photo” tach but was disappointed in ease of use and accuracy so I calculated my own numbers with simple math.
I measured...

Re: carb man
I agree with the positive comments - he is an honorable fellow. I bought a M-S carb from him that makes Rose (my '31 coupe) fun to drive again... no stalling at unexpected times, more power on...

Re: Electric Gas cut off
This is the instruction sheet that came with my cut-off. It simply changes the switched wire on the coil from the ground (points) to the hot and then you can add the solenoid on that same switched...

Re: Electric Gas cut off
I just happened to touch it and was quite surprised by its temp... and mine isn't next to the manifold, it's down at the carb inlet next to the hood louvers.

Re: Electric Gas cut off
I've seen many favorable comments in several threads over the years so I installed the 6v one (Snyder's) and really like the convenience, but it seems to get hot (160-180F after just a few miles). ...

How to routinely clean engine?
How do you routinely clean your engine? I mean occasionally removing road dust and grime, not scouring off decades of crud or tanking a block.

Another "oh-oh" moment - bolted up a Dodge flathead six, new pistons, bearings, you know the drill. Snugged up the pan, manifolds, ready to fire up and just before turning the key my towheaded son...

Works great, the only hand gestures it draws are waves... plus some smiles and laughs.
Easy to make, 1" and 2" rub on letters from Michaels (or similar) and a blank license plate.

Brake adjustment - frustration - RESOLVED
Whew! The brakes are now right. The original problem was that they wouldn't adjust for smooth braking... a sort of "Goldilocks" problem, they were either way too tight or way too loose, no "just...

Re: Brake adjustment - Frustration
No, even with the shoes "free" - no springs, no connection to the arm the rods are bound. Tomorrow I pull them and mail them to Snyder's for evaluating. I'll post the end story when I know it.

Don, Jr. himself did the rebuild... all NEW drums, shoes, adjustment parts, springs... the only used parts were my backing plates and hubs. And even the hubs have new wheel studs swaged in. Snyder's...

Re: Brake adjustment - Frustration
Update - more information but still no fix. I now find the same symptom on both front brakes, too. I pulled the drums off all four brakes and found out why the adjuster freewheels ccw - the brake...
