Re: Carbon build up inside intake bores?

Did you change camshafts recently ? If it has a cam with a lot of overlap (intake and exhaust valves opened at the same time), then it's possible to have reversion in the intake which is backwards...

Re: 55 272 Distributor

According to the chart that KULTULZ supplied, the 7RA vacuum canister is for a flathead V8 and 6 cylinders from '49 to '53, so don't think that will work.

Re: Who has one of these?

That style engine cart is the type they used at the Ford Engineering dynamometer lab in Dearborn. Makes total sense that the engine is a pre-production '32 prototype that never made it to production....

Re: 50 Car Differential Question

I agree. the question was what is the rear axle style or type called in his car, to help him get parts to repair. Sorry, I can't answer that question. I think it was the same type from '49 through...

Re: Shop Manual

KULTULZ,

Is the '56 Mercury 256 a small cam or large cam bearing engine ?

From the above you posted, I'm not sure if you meant small or large cam bearings.

Thanks, Sal

Re: weird hesitation

The AVS has no power valve to speak of. pretty sure it uses metering rods controlled by manifold vacuum.

Re: weird hesitation

If the ignition is in good shape and advancing properly, and if it's not an issue like accel pump shot from the carb, then I guess it's possible the air valve over the secondaries has the spring set...

Re: 1960 wagon west

Very nice scenery and trip ! Did you run into issues with the engine running too rich at high altitude ?

Re: 6 volt to 12 Volt conversion

Steve, I converted a '52 Ford to 12 volts and just used the Ford factory voltage reducer (regulator). I'm pretty sure I gave you one with the car. About 2" long and 3/4" wide with two terminals.

Re: Top three Ford Products, '32 - '53

"Things change. When I was a kid, a '40 Deluxe coupe was the cat's ass; now, I much prefer a '39 Deluxe (or maybe even a '40 Standard)."

That's the same with me. When I was a kid, I loved the...

Re: new to this era. Questions about phaetons or sedan convertibles?

Re: Carb Question

That's what I'm used to seeing. The end caps are small recessed caps. I guess it's possible someone plugged one with a ball on one side.

Re: Carb Question

Like Terry,OH said, it's probably just a different plug on one side. The nozzle holes are drilled on a downward angle before the end plugs. As long as it squirts out of both holes and not out the end...

Re: new to this era. Questions about phaetons or sedan convertibles?

I believe all of the convertible sedans (phaetons) were four doors. Last year being '40. I'm not an expert, but think the two door convertibles had a back seat later on in the 1930's (like '39 and...

Re: Smoke from oil cap?

100% agree with cadillac512 (Terry).
Also, a PCV system should be a closed system to be ideal. It sounds like your setup is open if you have a stock oil fill cap and you see smoke.

Re: Carburetor Issues - School me

Check to see if the throttle shaft lever is not peened well onto the throttle shaft. If this gets sloppy (worse with time) the throttle shaft can open the plates slightly when the lever is in the...

Re: 292 Starter/Bell Housing Rubber Gasket

It brings you to the Ecklers Corvette site, but you have to click on MAC's at the top right of the screen. Must be the same owner.
