Re: Topics one should cover in a "new head" walkthrough video

It was the 1/4 hole between pistons 3 and 4 that was not drilled out fully into the water jacket. On my second HC head, a different 1/4 hole was not drilled out.

Back 2 pistons (3 and 4) were...

Re: Topics one should cover in a "new head" walkthrough video

I had a blown head gasket soon after my motor was rebuilt. I replaced it, and soon had a scored piston. When we took the engine back apart, I noted the water hole passages were not drilled all the...

Re: special blue vitreous bumper blue paint?

I got some blue reflective tape from a police officer. It is the same type of material as the red and silver reflective tape, only it is blue. I think it is about the correct color, and can be...

Intermittant generator

The stock generator quit, although it did possibly work intermittently. I tried 2 other stock generators. One worked intermittently and one did not work at all. All 3 generators will "run like a...

carburetor rebuild

Hi,
I am thinking about having either a Zenith A or B carb rebuilt and internally air balanced. Does anyone have a recommendation on a repair shop that does this type of work?
Thanks,

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

Hi All,
Four knowledgeable car guys have listened to the motor since I last posted. Nobody is sure what the noise is, but the most thought it is something in either the timing gear or the oil pump...

Re: Problem With Clutch (Medical Problem)

We switched from a Model A clutch to a V-8 style clutch. I think the V-8 style clutch may push a little harder than the Model A clutch. Also, the new V-8 style clutch was produced "offshore" and...

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

Hi H.L. Chauvin:

I do plan to try and get another set of ears to listen to the engine, hopefully soon.

The other half of "we" is a very good Model A mechanic, who did listen to the...

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

More feedback:
Another question: Are you using a stock Model A distributer? With original points? I have 2 stock distributors I use. One has Model A points and one has modern points. I don't see...

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

I tried more suggestions, Here is more feedback:
If you try this simple test, it may answer your simple "pinging" questions. I did the simple test, and set the timing at TDC. I did later check it...

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

I have been trying suggestions today. Here is some feedback.
So right now you have it set at 20 ATDC????? No, I put in a different distributor which is set at 5 degrees retard at TDC. With this...

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

Thanks to all who wrote. I plan to try all the tips you sent including the "simple test".
So far:
-I tried the Motorcraft TT10's , and it didn’t make any difference on how it runs.
-I checked...

Re: Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

Mr. Chauvin,
I will try your method in the morning, but unless I am missing something, I think I am doing about the same thing with the timing light.

Pings with more than 10 degrees advance

Hi All,

We did a partial rebuild on my motor after the first rebuild failed due to scored pistons.

I found that it pings at road speed if I give it more than 5 to 10 degrees advance as...

Re: Transmisson oil leak fix

Glenn,

I am thinking also that I will not plug the hole. It seems to me that having the drain hole open would be a safety factor to prevent leaks in case some oil did get by the bearings. I...

Transmisson oil leak fix

In order to reduce oil leaks, we installed new main shaft bearings (sealed on both sides) along with both the shaft seal kits. I don’t know how it worked as 55 miles later the clutch went out, so the...

Re: Frame Spreader or Float- A Motor Mounts?

Thanks for input. I think it would only take about 1/16 or 1/8 for the motor to fit back in. We did try removing 1 cowl bolt and oiling the mounts but still didn't get it in. We could almost get it...
