Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Re: 1936 Exhaust manifold sealer
I would suggest you look into Remflex compressible manifold gaskets. I have bought multiple sets for flathead V8. They are good for a couple thousand degrees and squish to fill gaps in such things as...

Re: oil pump gear
Here's a gear I rejected on my current build. With a tape measure I find the gear is about 7/16" across the teeth and so is the offset. But my block with ny good gear installed is 3' away, so it's...

Re: oil pump gear
Or just an 1/8" strip on the edge of each gear is engaged, and you're on borrowed time. Easy to make a new gasket if required. And I guess of course you need to get behind the flywheel and that's a...

Re: oil pump gear
Yes, check it since there is some doubt. It's very easy to check now and I would imagine it's impossible once in the vehicle. With the offset on that gear it is likely on correctly or it would have...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Thanks for the offer and the words of encouragement. Hopefully today I can get some time today to check out the ring end gap so I can move in that direction. At this stage I am concerning myself with...

Re: Interesting Flathead Marine Engine
And those aren't headers, they are water cooled mainfolds, jacketed so after the cooling water is pumped through the block it cools the exhaust on it's way to the transom. I bet a V8 piped like that...

Tim, Happy to say I have all 3 of trhose parts and Skip, I forget about all the info on VanPelt site. Imagine my surprise when I got off the barn this morning and walked into my woodshop. So much for...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I'll do that Terry, and I made a very careful inspection of the inside of the pistons to look for aluminum chips etc and they are all surgically clean. It's easy to see in there. I did my cam end...

Re: Interesting Flathead Marine Engine
Now that is REALLY cool to me. Paragon gear is/was in Taunton Massachusetts, near where my dad grew up. I'd love to have first dibs if you only want the engine part.

Re: My next flathead build?
I had an industrial flathead on a trailer mounted welder in the early 90s. It was always overheating. During one of those times when "I'm gonna get out of this flathead thing" occured, I gave the...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Well it turns out I have 3 timing covers and none of them are the piloted type. I also have 3 distributors. An aluminum piloted one and 2 cast iron with no pilot. One of the cast iron ones is really...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
It'll buff out. That must be why it was suggested I hit those areas with some fine emery. Consider it done. Here's some of what got done yesterday. I'll shoot for getting the crank in today. The pump...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I have had a lot of flathead era ford trucks but the vast majority got here the hard way. My first flat V8 came from the island. Once the hook was set, I had haul them from the mainland. Oregon,...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
I'm no expert on the 8ba for sure, but I know I installed one in my '47 2 ton in 2014. I don't recall anything tricky or unusual. But wait, I may have used the forward set of crossmember holes for...
