Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris, I'm with the others in saying it's good to see you back in the 'hood. I'm sure that little red comet could be a fun distraction if you happen to like keeping up with traffic and being...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

It'll buff out. That must be why it was suggested I hit those areas with some fine emery. Consider it done. Here's some of what got done yesterday. I'll shoot for getting the crank in today. The pump...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I have had a lot of flathead era ford trucks but the vast majority got here the hard way. My first flat V8 came from the island. Once the hook was set, I had haul them from the mainland. Oregon,...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I'm no expert on the 8ba for sure, but I know I installed one in my '47 2 ton in 2014. I don't recall anything tricky or unusual. But wait, I may have used the forward set of crossmember holes for...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Thank you once again Pete. The bottom photo shows a couple more parts I picked up from my friend that sold me his father in law's block collection. He had mentioned he had some more bellhousings and...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

More very useable info here! This morning I cleaned and primered the truck pan as I wanted to know about the shiney bearings before it set the crank. Then I mowed about half of my gigantic lawn....

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Dang, you guys are killin' me. All the stuff I need to know to be happy on a Saturday morning. I have had a longtime love of #2 permatex, sounds perfect for head bolts, on the graphtite rope I used...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Thank you. From my search, many good engine builders here like the early timing gears in an 8ba. My nos aluminum cam gear is early type, so leaning in that direction. For now I will hold off on gear...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Just the kind of info I need! I'm an early riser so consider that crank going in tomorrow morning. Should I install the crank gear with a hammer and pipe sleeve or draw it on with a stud and sleeve...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I guess I have always known the rear main runs under the crank, but it was that 8" long triangular die cast part that I thought had something to do with the seal, like somehow it was external. Been...

Re: Running ford king seeley gauges on 12 v

So Duecemac, If you were to run an old 6v ford vehicle on 12v today, what would YOU buy to adapt the instruments and get them reliable and accurate? Source? Part #? Thanks

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I now have all the valves installed and adjusted. Everything went well. After I cracked the lifter all the bolt squishing was lighter and at 40 in/lb they adjust firmly and none felt at all loose. I...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

This thread is quite timely. About 14 hours ago the new owner drove away in my '47 jailbar tonner (photo). The truck had been mechanically 'restored' by me about 5 years ago. This young man had been...

Re: '34 Truck comes to live with it's brother.

Gotta be careful. Your avatar borders on pornographic. :)

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

'Adventures in used parts' The saga continues. I found I had a few guides that while they fit the valve nicely, the guide was somewhat loose in the block. 12 were a push through with hard thumb...

Re: Early Ford Cutaway Chassis YouTube Videos Global Rollcall and More Info

I recall there is one on Whidbey Island in Washington State. This may be the aforementioned '40, as I know very little about it. Maybe a fellow Washingtonian can provide more info.

Re: 1937 - changing gear advice

You should not have to double clutch this transmission with the exception of downshifting from 2nd gear into first. It sounds to me like your syncros may be worn out. There are others here that know...

Re: Don't be afraid of shipping -Deals exist!!

Probably six years. Seems there were quite a few shippers who specialized in engines and trans when I was looking. Not sure what to search. 'Shipping an engine?'

Re: Don't be afraid of shipping -Deals exist!!

I had a diesel engine shipped from Texas to Washington. Yellow Freight quoted me 1600.00. I found 'weshipengines.com' who charged me 400.00 and it arrived in of all things, a UPS semi. They find an...

Re: Running ford king seeley gauges on 12 v

I envision a little test station. Let's used compressed air. Starting with a good mechanical gauge and a good KS sender plumbed inline with your compressor at, say 30 psi. With a 6/12 battery...

Re: 47 1/2 ton pickup vs Tonner pickup steering column

Good detective work Mr. 51. Everyone should have a copy of 'the Good Book' in their automotive library.

Re: 47 1/2 ton pickup vs Tonner pickup steering column

The steering box itself seems to be the same. I have swapped them from one to the other with no alterations.
