Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

Do any of you think I should look at the timing or anything after doing that work on the points and rotating the steering column to line up the distributor arm correctly? It seems to be running ok,...

Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

Ok, update time.

I checked out the instructions on https://modelabasics.com/Ignition.htm that gave instruction on the ignition system. First I checked the gap from the rotor to the contacts on the...

Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

Thanks for all the great advice everybody! I'm going to keep the GAV open more and the spark rod little further down when I drive it home from work and see how it runs. Even if I don't get any...

Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

Ok, that sounds good, I'll put that in today. The instructions say to add one bottle to 20 gallons of gas, should I only put half a bottle in the 10 - 11 gallon tank?

Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

I had a feeling that might've been the problem. I'll do that from now on.

Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

Is there an easy way of cleaning it out without taking it all apart? I'm afraid if I take it all apart, I may not put it back together correctly.

Re: Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

It doesn't to behave as badly when it's more warmed up (maybe after driving a couple of miles or so).

Model A Lagging and Popping when Accelerating

Hi everyone,

The past few times I've driven my Model A, I noticed it loses a little power and pops a bit when accelerating. It idles ok.

I'm wondering if there might be a couple of reasons why...

Re: Gas pedal got stuck while driving.

Update.

I oiled the shaft and it stopped squeaking and moved a lot more freely, and when I straightened the throttle rod again and pressed the gas, it sprung back. So I think it might be safe to...

Re: Gas pedal got stuck while driving.

I popped the carburetor off and moved the plate. It does sound a little squeaky and sticks when pushed all the way (video attached), so it doesn't appear to be hitting the intake manifold. I'll oil...

Re: Gas pedal got stuck while driving.

Update.

I removed the rod and it definitely seems to be the carburetor. After removing the rod, the gas pedal swung up and down with no problem. Can that linkage on the carburetor be lubricated so...

Re: Gas pedal got stuck while driving.

In hindsight I kind of knew that could be a problem. Luckily it all happened in the middle of shifting from 2nd to 3rd, so the whole ordeal only happened over the course of a second or two. 😰

Gas pedal got stuck while driving.

Hi everyone.

While driving my A yesterday I pushed the gas down and the gas pedal got stuck in the down position. Luckily I didn't panic, pushed the clutch to stop it from accelerating and got it...

Re: Brake lights not working

I just wish they said that in the mechanics handbook, instead of just giving the wiring diagram.

Re: Brake lights not working

Well, son of a.....gun. I spent all day killing myself trying to figure out what the problem was, and all along it was because I didn't attach the brackets first. 🤬

I'm going to try hook up...

Re: Brake lights not working

Did I make a mistake by not attaching the taillight housing and bracket to the fender before wiring and testing them? Do the bracket bolts act as a ground for the lightbulbs?

Re: Brake lights not working

Man, you guys are good. I'm so glad I joined this forum. In my final test I wrapped a wire around the socket and attached it to the same clip I had attached to the chassis when I did the voltmeter...

I also just wanted to double-check the bulbs besides using the multimeter. I put the bulbs into a desk lamp and they lit up no problem. I even tried the 12v bulb that was in the desk lamp, just for...

Re: Brake lights not working

Ok, here's an update that will hopefully give some clarity. I connected the positive multimeter lead to the chassis, and then the negative to each terminal of the brake switch. Pictures are attached,...
