Thanks guys I got a IC7sb at the local NAPA, no carquest nearby, Its working good.

Middle aged guy at the counter first said "we haven't carried" 6V coils for many years". I asked him to look up...

Coil selection advice

I have an 8BA, Mallory dual point 6V positive ground. Coil is just black no name.

After cleaning and replacing some contacts car is again starting OK.

But I noticed the coil is apparently wired...

As to the issue of safety by years. I was able to look it up, but no longer have the references. IIRC deaths/mile was worse around 1940, and total deaths peaked late 50's 60's because so many more...

I bought 6V halogen sealed beams on line, think the place was "Mikes chevy" Much brighter than the standard lamps.

I have 3.3 rear end stock OD trans, 276ci Flatty with Holly 390. I can get 18/19 mpg mix of highway/light in town traffic. I know the stock engine got best mpg at 30 mph. The drag on a 50 ford is .62...

Thanks guys, got me to do the calculation, its a stock tranny.

2nd (no OD) is 4800 rpm at 60mph. I should get a tach.

3.31 rear end OD trans with toggle switch. 276 ci, 4bbl ,aluminum heads, 3/4 cam.

1) Forget the OD?
or

2) Use the OD and pause to let it shift from 2nd to 2ndOD?

1950 rebuilt 8ba flathead 1 qt 2000 miles, 8000 miles on rebuild
2009 Hyundai 85,000 miles less than 1 qt /7500 miles between oil change
1996 Camry 280,000 miles 1 qt /400miles

reason for rotorwrech reply is newer grease will attack brass parts. I ordered stuff from Amsoil for the purpose which worked well. OD tranny has 2 places to grease

I've read there were about 3.5 millioin 49-51 shoebox fords made approximately half V8. Interesting the same article said Ford was not going to produce the V8 after WW2 for Ford passenger cars...
