Re: 1928 will not stay running

Use a good quality voltmeter and take measurements on the battery. Before you start it, with it running, and after it quits. Then we can make a data driven recommendation for you. Without more info...

Re: model a amp meter

Put a voltmeter on the battery first. Could be someone reversed polarity on the car without changing meter polarity, or several other reasons.

Re: What do you make of this

"What do you make of this
Not sure what you're getting at. See some different ways of doing things, like not painting the head before it's installed? Or wiring? or sparkplugs? or the friction taped...

Re: E A Laboratories Voltage Applications

I can't read the ad but I've seen old accessories that had three terminals. Use the outside two for 12 volt or run power to center, with both outside grounded for 6 volt operation. No idea if that's...

Re: USB charger socket for 6 V system

You may need a noise filter ahead of the charger. Model A electrical systems are too noisy for most modern electronics without some serious filtering first.

Re: Reliability

You emphasize RELIABILITY.
complete 12 volt conversion, No reliability gain, some convenience due to commonness of 12V neg gnd
generator to alternator no reliability gain, does give you some...

Re: generator not charging _ How come?

Are you sure thats a solid state cutout ? Sounds like normal operation for a fun projects regulator. Will only charge if battery needs it. However, shorting across a voltage regulator is not a good...

Re: Gas additive

I second that. I've been using ATF in small engines for a long time. Briggs two cylinder engines have a habit of sticking valves. ATF in the gas will solve the issue.

Re: rattle-can touch-up paint

A lot of older restorations used whatever color looked close in the paint books. I used hunter green then mixed in some black and some blue until I got it close.

Re: 1931 model A performance

Typically 45 to 50 is a comfortable speed. Watch this thread... you'll have people declaring that 65 - 85 is what they do, ALL DAY. Yeah right. Just the aerodynamics alone make that stupid.

Re: Voltage regulator for stock 6 V Positive ground system

I've used the fun projects regulator for quite a few years. Keeps the battery well charged without overcharging it. Also makes running at night with the lights on a no worry situation. I'd recommend...

Re: Charging?? Canít say it is

Use a voltmeter and check battery voltage before and after starting, also check output voltage of alternator. Could be a connection/wiring issue. Wont know unless you take some readings. Dont start...

Re: battery power loss mystery

First off, try another charger for a few hours. If voltage comes back up, then there's a possibility it may still be ok. Chances are though, it likely needing replacement. Some maintainers run too...

Re: No air filter . . .

I have an original aftermarket Airmaze on mine. I also run a fiber filter over that. Its amazing how dirty it gets. Doesnt affect the mixture at all that I can detect. When I clean it I think about...

Re: Checking generator output

Double the voltage to give you a reference to a 12v system. 6.9V x 2 = 13.8V That'll be just fine, I don't care who you are! :)

Re: Shade tree test

A decent quality voltmeter will tell you volumes about the condition of the charging system and battery. Check battery voltage before you start the car, engine running at idle speed, engine RPM at...

Re: 6V to 12V conversion

I do not plan to convert mine, everything works well at 6V. However, I also see there would be advantages to running 12v neg gnd if you wanted to add accessories. Mine'll stay as is, but I certainly...

Re: Engine Oil consumption

I change about every 1000 miles. Can't see any change on the dipstick at that interval. I fill it to the full mark. Doesn't really leak though, just enough to get oily on the bottom, not enough to...

Re: 700 RPM's ??

Better yet, put a voltage regulator in and forget about the generator AND the battery. It'll take good care of them.

Re: Toyota chassis

The trouble is, it will be a TON of work and when it is done it will be worth less than if you had just repaired the original. So many of the modern "improvements" are that way. If you stay within...

Re: Lug nuts

Rather than concentrate on getting them so tight, just check them every so often. Just takes a minute or two.
