I have a hard time remembering the open and closed position of the gas shutoff valve. I made a little sign and hung it on the gas line next to the shutoff - problem solved, I think.

JBill is correct, the hole is so the threaded part of the footrest can be lowered into the hole if desired. If you check the picture I attached above, you can see the flat part of the footrest plate...

The footrest hole is shown next to the throttle cutout (small hole for the threaded shaft of the footrest). Steve Watrous made the nice print. Double click on the link below to see Steve's print...
