Lifting 30 Tudor body

Good morning all.

I've completed all the mechanical stuff on the front end, now it's time for the rear end, including completing welding the prior owner spot welded.

It appears the best way to...

Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

Update:

the front brakes are plumbed.

Thanks for all the guidance, it worked out pretty well. I made brackets for the hose/hard line connection out of 1 1/4 x 1/8 bar stock and mounted them on...

Re: Flathead 8 and power brakes.

Thanks everyone for the answers.

I'll check the vacuum and decide whether to use a tank, pump or both.

Re: Flathead 8 and power brakes.

Thanks everyone.

The car was converted to 12v Neg ground, so it looks like, if needed, one of the aftermarket units should work. I'll check the engine vacuum first.

Flathead 8 and power brakes.

Howdy all.

I have a 30 Model A I bought off an estate a while back. The owner was going for a 50's 'ish' build.

Why am I here rather than the Model A forum? The car came with a 48 truck...

Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

Follow up question - the car came with a Speedway brake/clutch combo. It's a power master cylinder. Will the flathead 8 have enough vacuum for the brakes?

Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

The car came with a 9 inch Ford rear end and all the brake parts for that. Though the line that came with it is 3/8 standard straight line. May need something else for that run...

Re: Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

Thanks. It appears there's no issue with the spring hitting the line. The soft lines that came with it aren't long enough to reach to that spot. I plan to run them to the top shock mount bolt at...

As you requested, here's the mounted master cylinder.

Next step - brake lines...30 Tudor - Guidance?

I have the front suspension assembled and brakes installed/adjusted on the estate Model A I've been working on (yay!)

Next step is plumbing the front brakes - they're 46-48 brakes and a Speedway...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Good afternoon, everyone:

I followed up on what Boling Brothers told me and solved the problem.

By inspecting and measuring the brake shoes, I found that the bottom edge of the 'large' shoe ...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

The 'outside mount' drums are offset to place the braking surface in the original location. They don't really work with the original hubs as far as I know.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Good info, thanks. I'm looking at it again today. I'll keep everyone posted, in case it helps someone else.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

I agree with the radius assessment, it does seem a bit odd. And I'm not sure how changing the arc would alter the fit at the bottom (fixed end of the 'arc').

Also, Boling Brothers rep mentioned...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did space the drums out a little, it did improve.

I'll check if the backing plates are bent, the wire 'tool' is a great idea. And I'll try to measure the...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

OK, a follow up.

Per Gary's recommendation, I sent photos and info to Boling Brothers.

They got back to me today.

They've heard of this happening with Lockheed brakes (fixed bottom anchor),...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

That's exactly why. Gary recommended the P&J hubs as a substitute.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

That would have been great, but the only ones Boling Brothers has are part of the full brake kit, and they didn't know when they'd get more. Gary recommended the Pete and Jake hubs and uses them as...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Ok, follow-up challenge.

I purchased hubs and drums from Gary Mussman.

There was a minor fit problem with one hub, easily resolved.

I installed everything on Saturday... didn't go well.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

I'll be happy to sell them to you, once I get the replacements. Still need to move it around a bit. I hope to order the replacements this week.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Thanks.

I've added my location (thought I'd already done that). I'm on the North Oregon Coast

I gather that these are pre war drums/hubs. And it may be difficult to find replacement drums.

46-48 front drum replacement, or??

I have a 30 Model project estate car.

In working on the front end, it appears that the prior owner had installed aftermarket spindles and 46-48 ford front brake parts on it. One of the drums is...
