Re: My next flathead build?

The PS head started coming off easily towards the front of the block, but of course there had to be one stud with crud/corrosion around it. I slowly worked my way towards the rear of the head, prying...

Re: My next flathead build?

There seems to be a thermostat(s) under all that rust. Nuts came off the head studs easily on the PS along with some studs. Qty 10 studs came out with the nuts. All the threads on the studs are in...

Re: My next flathead build?

Some more pics. Has some sort of belt-driven “governor” (last pic) that is connected to the throttle. If anyone knows what it is, or how it works. Please chime in. I’m hoping the aluminum heads are...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

Guess what! I got the engine. Couldn’t believe it when he contacted me. Thought no way. I’m glad I got it because of the local history attached to it. I’m no youngin, but hope to do my part to keep...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

Came across this Flathead industrial engine (used at a ski lift) on FB marketplace two days ago. It’s local, and was offered for free. I responded saying I would take and was local. I had my...

Re: F100 - 1953 to 1956? Steering Box/Column Disassembly

Well, I guess the “snap ring” wasn’t a snap ring after all. Twisted it out with a flat screwdriver. Managed to loosen things up with a bit of PB Blaster. It wasn’t seized too bad after all. Lol! ...

Re: F100 - 1953 to 1956? Steering Box/Column Disassembly

Got the 5/16” fine pitch bolts yesterday. First tried my gear/pulley puller, but the centre of the 5/16” bolts were too close to the main thread and the slots in the “H” beam were not deep enough to...

Re: F100 - 1953 to 1956? Steering Box/Column Disassembly

Got it. Removed the cap and nut, but don’t have any 5/16” fine? pitch threaded rod/bolt to pull off the steering wheel. Will need to get something in town later.

Re: F100 - 1953 to 1956? Steering Box/Column Disassembly

Thanks! Does the cap just pop off? Looks like a three pronged spring with tabs maybe holding it in. Will have a closer look later today.

F100 - 1953 to 1956? Steering Box/Column Disassembly

I picked this up yesterday thinking I might use it for my speedster build. I want to separate the box from the column but haven’t been able to find anything. Lots of info/vids on how to rebuild/...

Re: Compression and flow

Came across this vid yesterday on YT. Gives a great insight as to what happens in a flathead/ L head combustion chamber.

Re: C59A Generator Amp Info/Wiring Gauge

Engine and trans (T5) are rubber isolated. The engine is using the Ford OEM style engine mounts, and the T5 is using a GM style mount. Battery is mounted under the seat. I came across this thread...

Re: C59A Generator Amp Info/Wiring Gauge

Interesting. I’ll also be running a 1/0 cable from the battery to the chassis. Is it really necessary to run the other grounds?

Re: C59A Generator Amp Info/Wiring Gauge

Thanks for the info gents. Much appreciated. Somewhere at some time, I found a diagram of a generator amp vs rpm graph, but of course, I can’t find it. In my mind, I thought output was somewhere...

C59A Generator Amp Info/Wiring Gauge

I’m beginning to do the wiring on my speedster build with my C59A engine and original generator. Generator was rebuilt and remains as 6V. I’m wondering about the wire size/gauge to use for the...

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

Could it have something to do with either one of the oil pressure relief valves? I recall wondering why there was one in the sump oil pump, and one in the block on my C59A.

Re: Break-in gone wrong!

Don’t think the 0.008” clearance is an issue. I went back through my thread on the sump oil pump rebuild I did, but I never did measure the gasket, or at least mentioned it. Michael from Third Gen...
