Re: Isky 3/4 Max 1 Camshaft

Yep . . . but I don't envy Ryan having to make the calls and I give him credit for being consistent and not blowing in the wind.

With that said, all of us will miss Pete and the extensive...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Yeah, a contour gauge is a very handy tool for many different things - especially fabrication with tubing and other such fun!

Re: 13/4 intake

Come on Tony . . . bring the ole' girl back to life! Now, with a bigger cam in it (like a .500+ lift roller), it could be something.

But, you'll have to bore out the first two cam bearing...

Re: One Head stud too short each bank follow-up

I was laughing this AM at the title of this thread ---> kind of a way of mentioning a friend who isn't the "brightest bulb in the pack":

"I know Ole Tom . . he is one head stud too short. . . ."...

Re: Isky 3/4 Max 1 Camshaft

Pete posted some remarks that got him banned. The rules are the rules and they're here for the benefit of all. I eMailed Pete and let him know that he is missed - he is fine and is still on the HAMB...

Re: Oil Pump?

Nothing like some real-world examples . . . as I remember the conversation with Adam. Nice to see that the "big pump band-aid" trick has worked for him. Worth a try at the very least . . .

Re: O2 bung question

It can go anyplace downstream of the engine - usually a couple feet back from the block or head. On a flathead, your "ports" are already like headers, so I put mine back from where the rear port...

Re: 13/4 intake

This is usually how it is done with full-on race engines - pull the hard seats out and grind the seats right in the cast iron. There is no issue with this and it gets rid of the challenge of putting...

Re: Overheating 1946 V8

The 'Old Wive's Tales' about restricting flow so the "water picks up more of the heat" are just that - don't believe them. Flow is your friend - period. If you're ever bored - here is a link to...

Re: Oil Pump?

While a new/better oil pump could certainly help, you might also have worn bearings.

Personally, I would not want to run an engine with no or that low oil-pressure . . . that is just asking for...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

You are going to be surprised how well this new engine runs! Can't wait to hear about it. You better take a video of the "first fire" and "first drive" with it. ;)

Re: 1932/36 Condenser replacement.

Here is where I usually buy magneto stuff - Spud is a good dude (he has built a few racing mags for me):

Re: One Head stud too short each bank follow-up

GB: You should checkout the ARP stud kits for the mains - not too expensive and have really nice hardware. I think Red's Headers has them for around $50 or so?

Re: One Head stud too short each bank follow-up

Yeah, I use the smaller diameter washers - though they come with my ARP studs. They don't protrude as much and don't have issues with the spot-facing on the aluminum heads. (Being too wide). Also,...

Re: Adapting a later Columbia to a 1934 axle

Did you have an "alignment bar" to help keep the bearing surfaces true to the middle? How did you handle that portion of the job?

Re: UPDATE***39 Ford deluxe can't remove cam

The cam you have is all nice and cozy with the lifters you have - if it is in good shape, put a new gear on it and put er' back in!

Re: UPDATE***39 Ford deluxe can't remove cam

Just assume you'll need new cam bearings . . . they are not expensive.

Re: Adapting a later Columbia to a 1934 axle

You have it correct. You use a stock bell on the driver's side and a modified Columbia housing on the right side. In the end, you'll be using late 32 - 34 axles and the width will be the same as...

Re: Rebuilt flathead tight - too tight?

I checked my notes on a recent 3 5/16 + .040 engine with a 4.250 stroke crankshaft, Ross pistons, metric rings - was 20 lbs of torque to rotate the lower end (without the pan or timing cover on).

Re: 1932/36 Condenser replacement.

That is what I'd do if I was running these early distributors. I tend to use the bigger 32mfd units (though they're about twice what the smaller ones are).

Re: Oil leak

You could try a stock lower-pressure pump - as it currently appears to have the later 49-53 pump - which will put out more volume and pressure than stock.

While I hate to mention an alternative...
