Re: oversize head gasket
I forget the part number but the copper gaskets I got (from NAPA) measure 4.125 center to center on the fire ring.
Two of my engines were 4.040 bore. Worked fine with offset bores.

Re: Crank
It is interesting to note that someone seems to be trying to lead us to believe most of these new engine developments are recent history.
It is also keen to note that they have only touched the tip...

Re: Crank
I haven't seen or driven one of the new Corvette's but I did drive a couple of the Galaxy 500's with the 427 engine and they were quite docile for a street legal race car. As I recall one got around...

Crank
Interesting to note, GM has gone back to a model A type crank (180 degree) in their new Corvette engine. It took a lot of engineering to make it work but it really does.
Another interesting note,...

Re: NGK Anti - Seize?
The use of a copper base anti-seize compound for spark plugs has been common for many years.
Copper is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity.
On spark plug threads it will help dissipate...

Re: Flathead exhaust valve guide seals
On one hand knurling the outside is good because it makes the guide tight in the block so the valve seat remains solid in place but you also lose about 30% contact area which relates to a LOT of heat...

Re: Sealed beams
My 30 A had sealed beams installed by the former owner. They sit inside the stock buckets with the stock glass over the front. You can not tell they are not stock headlights till you get within 2...

Re: connecting rods
First, the rod is cleaned either chemically or glass beaded.
The pin bushing (if present) is removed.
The big end and pin bore are checked for being within rebuilding specs.
The rod alignment is...

Re: Isky 404A cam - Harley Davidson grind?
Adjustable, so called Johnson lifters may need re-heat treating, depending on when and where they were made. This should be done in an inert gas atmosphere to eliminate any scale.
You will have to...

Re: Rethreading Spark Plug holes in Aluminum Heads
I have used both successfully.
The helicoil is fine if the plug seat in the head is not gouged or worn.
The Timesert has the advantage of having the plug seat as part of the unit so if you get the...

Re: Cam Specs Again
As far as I know, Isky never stamped his cams like that. They always had the name.

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft
With the heels running out .006, it is not even worth discussing.
By the way, I have been in the cam business since 1952.

Re: NOS 8RT camshaft
To fix it I would need to know if it is a genuine Ford core. If it is there will be
Ford letters cast in the core somewhere along the line such as "8RT", 8ba, etc etc.
In the middle picture, can...
