Re: Split intake

Heat stress crack from crossover. If it were me and I just wanted to drive it, I would smear heat resistant epoxy into the crack until I could replace it.

It is possible that there may be cracks...

Re: Alternative to split rims on 1.5 ton trucks?

I have a F600 with the widowmakers and I just finally decided to pull the axles and stick Ford 1 ton Dually axles under it and call it a day.

It takes #1500 or more to loosen the lugs on a 2 ton....

Re: Ford Flathead DUI (distributor)

I got a Bubbas. That thing even looks ugly. For the price, I would prefer what I got from Bubba anyway.

Re: Step washers for aluminum heads

So I noticed there is some play in the fitment of the Edelbrock heads I have. Not a lot but enough. Would something like that take out the play and stabilize them? Would the heads have to be machined...

Re: New block, a further discussion

Ok, dumb question time. Isn't one of the first things done to a flathead relieving the block to improve flow and isn't relieving considered the most bang for your buck in terms of performance? How is...

55 truck radiator options

So, I won't go into details but, will a 53 flathead truck radiator fit in a 55 truck radiator location? Will a 52 truck radiator fit?

I'm getting ready to try some options, just wondering if...

Re: 6 volt or 8 volt??

You need to have 2.4V per cell over rated voltage to properly charge any battery. If you have a 8V battery on a 6V charging system, you will NEVER properly keep the battery charged and it will...

Re: Bubbas hacked !!!!!!

OK, I am just providing this info as my opinion, but this is what I do. I have a personal cloud made up of old 1TB drives. I backup to these.

This is the #1 thing to do, in my opinion, to prevent...

Re: Nickel copper brake.fuel lines.

I just looked through NHRA rules and it only specifies metallic lines and max 12" non-metallic fuel lines from tank to engine. Nothing about copper. I wonder if there are other rule books out there....

Re: Yet an even higher flow thermostat?

I just googled this part # 2003-180 thermostat and I got pics of the same thermostat rated at 180.

Re: 1948 - 1952 truck 12 volt wiring harness choices?...

Just a note, 6V wiring is more than sufficient to carry 12V. If you want an original wiring system, don't worry about the conversion. The gauge is heavier for 6V than 12V.

Re: 1948-1952 truck 12 volt battery choices?...

I just don't trust Optima, too many stories. I have been replacing my batteries in my daily drivers with Bosch AGM batteries. They are normal shaped and I have had no problems with them not working...

Re: Removing Oil Pan

Pretty standard stuff. Drop pan, loosen mains, drop crank as low as you can, pull front and rear seals, install oil soaked new ones in block, raise crank, tighten mains, clean gasket surfaces, pull...

Re: Is soldering/welding a thing of the past??

Back on topic, can you imagine the old ones around the water cooler when gas welding came out?

Re: Some advice on 8BA pistons

Pistons should be matched to the stroke. The rod is the same and the crank stroke will push the wrist pin higher in the bore. If you are using a 4" (255) crank, you need the matching pistons for the...

Re: oil

Just listen to Hoop. That being said, here is what I use to judge if an oil is the right thickness. After the engine is warm, I see oil pressure at idle and at 3000 rpm. At idle, if it's at least 6...

Re: cast-iron welding ?

It looks flat but it looks pretty thin, in my opinion. If that's factory style, I guess it would work. I'm comparing the flange thickness to the other ones. It just seems like a tiny little ear that...

Re: 1953 f-100

Throwing my hat in there. Your drains in the lifter valley are plugged. Get a new intake gasket, pull the intake and, at minimum, run a rod through the valley drains. If it were me, I would probably...

Re: oil filters, again !

This is actually sold in Mac's. It is intended to replace the original caniser with a spin on as a direct replacement. This would be the fastest, correct, and easy filter replacement version of the...

Re: Oil Temperature Sensor '48 Flathead

(If) you were going to still use that oil temp gauge just for decor and not for actual accurate, measurements, Why not just foil tape or heat wrap the sensor end somewhere discrete where it will...

Re: oil pump, again

My pump would have been an interference fit if I didn't use the thin gasket with my kit. The gears protruded .001 outside the pump body. The gasket left clearance for the gears to turn.

Check your...

Re: Engine builders - a little advice please

Just a thought but what if all the oil drained out of the pump and it can't prime? Could pull the cover off and cram some grease in the pump, also check for engagement into the idler gear to the cam.

The walker generic muffler is a good choice and quiet. I agree with the previous comment, take the old one to Napa or your favorite parts store and have them search their catalog. Remember that the...

Re: V8 Center Port Problems

Joe Abbin has written at least 3 books and has countless hours on dyno as well as life experience. He says the trouble in working the center exhaust port is not worth the benefits, if there are even...
