Re: Adjustable Tappets
There is a method that you can use that I have not used on a model A yet, but an old motorcycle mechanic put me on to it when I was restoring a WD matchless G3L350 and have used on lots of KTM off...

Re: Piston orientation
They will not be going around the block again, I wonder how well it ran with only one compression ring.

Re: Piston orientation
If the pistons are supposed to have the split to the cam then they must have been in the wrong way round!

Piston orientation
Can anyone tell me which way the split in the piston faces, I marked the cap but not the rod (fool).
They must have had an issue finding piston rings at the last rebuild, Have a close look.

Re: Decided to pull the motor/trans
What sort of hone are you using? I did not think you could go up a size with just a hone, not criticizing, it is the sort of thing I would like to do.

Re: Main bearings Babbitt unusual
The crank is not drilled, I am hopeful this block can be used with these bearings, its a shame the crank has a little rust and some minor pitting, I think this one was stored outside for a while. I...

I pulled down one of my spare motors the main bearings are different to my other motors. Machined groves in the block bearings and none in the caps?
Is this unusual?

Re: Model A motor tear down Covid lockdown

Then spun up a drift to get the guides out.
Next job clean up the mess and have a look for cracks....

Re: Model A motor tear down Covid lockdown
I got the head studs out, broke 2.
I used the TIG method to get them out, the first one came out on the second try.
The second one fought all the way, I nearly ran out of nuts to weld on.

Re: Valve guide tool help needed
Mike
Your wife is right, life as home mechanic was a lot harder before these forums came along.
My milling machine is just a Mill Drill, I have just enough equipment to get by.
