Re: Marsden nuts

Actually, and with all due respect, Marsden nuts began to show up on shock links in early 1939 - as I recall it was February / March of that year.
This was the time when the stud length was...

Re: 78-8620 'A' vs 'C' gen belt 42-48

You can put the A back on but that won't be correct either.
Fan Belts for 85 and 95 H.P. Engines

Two different fan belts were installed on 1940 Ford passenger vehicles with 85 and 95 horsepower...

Re: Sticking float valve

Yes they do until they don't. I would never again use one. I have had two to date stick closed.
Perhaps bad luck but when the second stuck closed, well, no more for me.

Re: Sticking float valve

Get a solid brass needle. The rubber tipped ones have an issue with sticking.

Re: Original 'Ford' Flathead Water Pump

David is correct (of course). These were first produced in 1945 for the exact reason David stated. If a guy is doing a concourse correct restoration on a '46 - '48 he needs them. Still, core value...

Re: Tie Rod End Removal

x3 what David said. Pickle forks are good at removing tie rod ends. Simultaneously, they ruin the end.
Proper pullers are reasonably priced and do no harm.

Re: 40 Ford Replacement Panel

I believe this pan is identical to Drake's. Even the box appears the same.
I've installed three, maybe four, of Drake's pans with great results.

Re: engine mounts torque

If you have the proper bolt, washer and nut, bring the slotted nut down far enough to engage it with a cotter pin.

Re: 40 Ford Replacement Panel

Received the pan today from Pacific. It's identical the pan Drake sold, um, that is - when he had them.

Re: Dennis Carpenter new flatty waterpump issue...

This would be my guess as well. Even with authentic pumps one must be careful with the installation as the pulley will occasionally interfere with the cylinder head. Easy fix obviously... just move...

Re: 1940 Antenna

There are a number of plastic "washers" as well as a grommet in that area.

Do you have a complete and authentic antenna?

Re: 1940 Antenna

There is a rubber grommet that disallows any contact between the metal body and the antenna.

Re: Any idea what tis frame is?

I'll take a stab at this: Hydraulic brakes so 1939+. Heavy frame so perhaps 1 ton+.It's certainly not passenger car.
Perhaps measure the wheel base for us? Maybe find the serial number???

Re: Starter heat soak

In my opinion, your flathead as well as it's exhaust does not make enough heat to cause any adverse issues with your starter. If it does, I'd suggest you have an issue with your starter that needs to...

Re: 40 Ford Replacement Panel

The panels I'd got from Drake (once he made them with the correct curves) had fit perfectly every time. Three of them as I recall - perhaps four. CRS.

Re: 39 standard seat

I went back and carefully looked over those photos again. That car is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO not "original".
Might be a nice car, but I'd caution anyone to bid on it as the car it is... a Nice "driver".

Re: 39 standard seat

Leather was an option in 39 but very discouraged. What wasn't an option were the auxiliary seats. Not here in the USA they weren't.
This car is NOT as advertised.
My guess is whomever is selling it...

Re: 39 standard seat

The Business Coupe IS the one with the auxiliary seats. That body style was fit with a split back rest so folks (very tiny folks) could access the rear seating area.
The Coupe was fit the seat that...
