I agree on using vice grips, but be careful not to crush your fitting!

Re: What year and what is it worth?
I saw a '55 F-100, auctioned at an estate sale a few months ago in Western Kentucky. I thought about bidding on it but didn't, especially after bidding started high and went to $4600, i think. It...

Re: Airplane parts? Or junk?
One could also attach a spring(s) to the mechanism to retract the cylinders. That's how the leveling cylinders work on RVs these days. Of course the pressure would need to be relieved, first.

Re: Muffler review
I have a pair of Walker Continentals on my 48, which I installed around 1978 (but who's counting). They are a little loud now. Not a flathead, tho.

Re: Stoplight Stall
Upon re-starting, does it sound, and act rich? Black smoke? These would be symptoms of flooding due to stopping. Make sure your floats are working under fuel pressure, it could be any of the three.

Re: What were the chances!
Census reports are done every 10 years, and are good records for people living in a specific city or county. They can also provide a few historic details.

If you are ok to stand from a sitting position, you are lifting almost half of your weight with each leg. Is the doctor ok with you walking?

So true Rotorwrench!
Old Bold Pilots makes me think of Chuck Yeager, test pilot, and the "Right Stuff" story. Isn't Yeager still alive?

Re: 1947 convertible
Have you pulled the distributor cap and checked the rotor/cap interface, making sure you have a good circuit to the plugs?

Re: Lifting a 8ba engine
Nice charts, Fordy. It's amazing to think how strong steel actually is. A grade 8 5/16" bolt could easily lift a full size car!

Bad solenoid? Have you actually tested it's operation by applying voltage? It has to be working to lock out the OD sungear/clutch.

Re: Let me ask another way
You might try switching the polarity to the rear bulbs. LEDs only work when wired in one polarity direction. That is the nature of a diode.
