If you look at an earlier oil-pan, you'll see a funny little triangular sheet metal component on the front passenger side corner of the pan. It has about a 1/4" slot that will draw combustion-gasses...

That appears to be what came out around 1956 or 1957 - it might be the bigger Holley 2110 (maybe). I would run that carb over a stock 94 in a heartbeat - it flows about 50 more cfm and with the 276...

Exactly! I worked with Ed Isky to make two roller-cams for flatheads - back when I was in my early 20's. Then (due to not having roller lifters and no time to make them), I drug those cams around...

Be careful when NOT using the lock plate, that the 4 cam gear bolts don't go THROUGH the back of the camshaft flange and then gall up the thrust surface on your block!

I always install the gear...

I just measured one (out of the casting). It is 4.5" total length and its OD is .748 or so. It is a "split" tube, so I'm sure it was designed to expand a bit and then compress when it was knocked...

Hopefully they have the necessary "baffle" that drops in the back of the manifold that this tube then runs inside of. It is very important to have the right one if you want the original breathing...

Bottom line, the pins/spring kit you have is too high for the Wide-5 drums. If it was mine, I'd just put in shorter pins/springs and the problem should be solved.

Yeah, you can't beat the ARP kit . . . is really high-quality stuff.

Obviously, it hurts to pay for it, but once you put them on an engine, you're glad you did! LOL
