From the rear attaching screw of the gas door to the center of the locking gas cap the dimension is 41/4"..B.

MacVP mentions remedy #7 anti chatter rods. U haven't specifically mentioned they R in place on your wagon. They were factory installed in 1940 and easily omitted. Are they in place? A simple check....

We want to know did Mercury in the series from 46/48 make a business coupe, that is a "short door" body style coupe on the 118" wheelbase chassis? They did for sure on the Canadian 114" chassis. ...
