You might trying to take a little free play out of the clutch.


You must have some free play but taking a little out will allow the clutch to release a little more.

JB Weld will not make it worse.


Even if it fails, you will be no worse off than you are now.


I absolutely do not recommend using J B Weld but in this case, it may buy you a little time...

Grade 8 steel nuts WITH ANTI-SIEZE.


You definitely need Anti-Sieze Compound on any threaded fastener that sees heat. Also use grade 8 steel hardware with Anti-Sieze on the muffler clamp...

Is this something that happened all the sudden where the starter would not turn over the engine?


Is the engine itself too tight? Can it easily be turned over with the crank with the plugs out.

Heating and letting the stud cool very slowly will anneal the broken stud and make it softer.


The stud you have is probably high carbon steel or it would not be hard. Heat with a fine tip...

I am using the cast iron FAM rear mount with a Mitchell OD and I did not have to do any modifications.


I have a Left hand drive car so this may be the difference.

For the FAM's to work correctly, they can not be over tightened or they will not work.


What I do is to replace the course thread thru bolts with fine thread and I use nylon inserted self locking...

I put a drop of Elmers Glue on each brass plug and after the paint has dried, pick at the drop of glue and it will come right off exposing the brass plug.


Also, I use semi gloss black ceramic...

Put a drop of oil on the threads before you install the lug nut.


This will do wonders for keeping the threads in good condition.


Also a little oil will allow you to get a more consistent...

Be sure the gland rings are not too wide and will not allow the exhaust manifold to seat up tight against the block. If the exhaust manifold will not seat up tight, the intake also will not seat up...

Are you running an alternator?


If so, a bad diode in the alternator can drain the battery.


If you are running a stock Model A generator, it should be...
