I believe you can just flip the cover of the oil pump over, to get a new surface. Check it with some 320 grit on a flat surface, like your fancy grinder or table saw bed.

To lock up the motor, you could remove one shift rod from the tranny, and put it in two gears at once...it will not turn over then. For this job, may be easier to just put it in gear with a block...

I would just drive the heck out of it. Who knows, it may improve. Some marvels magic oil mixed in may even loosen up some stuck rings. drive it, it can't get worse!

Totally agree with Ken, put 5 quarts in and then punch mark, chisel mark, hacksaw mark, drill tiny hole like the newfangled cars have, take your pick
