Re: Turn Signals in Front (or Back) You decide

Make sure you mount one of them next to the horn so every time you honk it says Ahhhh Ugggggg Lyyyyy

Just kidding, I like the original lines of the car and would go with cowl turn signals if I...

Re: oil pump and distributor plug

I believe many A's have the bolt there and works fine. The correct solution for appearance is the plug. In my case I ordered the Snyders oil pump retainer not realizing I had a bolt in my block....

Re: Float a motor vs. stock mounts

You sound like a sane guy, if you run short you can call me a friend so now you're up to 4 again (maybe not locally)...

Was there ever an engineering study done by those who promote the frame...

Re: Wood handle tire pump

If you can state that it actually works for inflating tires, I'll buy it (if shipping is decent). Probably as close as I'll get to an orignal. I think most repro's are ornamental only...

Re: Float a motor vs. stock mounts

I went the float a motor mounts on the rear of the engine and it made a huge reduction in vibrations especially around 30mph.

Not sure how much improvement I would have gotten just replacing the...

Re: Cleaning oil pan sludge without dropping it- before changing to detergent based o

I have big hands, so I must be missing something here...

After I pulled the oil pan, I pried out the baffle tray and was able to clean it and the oil pan in the parts washer. It took a small...

Re: They made a commercial about my wife!!

Thats why the fore fathers established laws like were allowed to have multiple model A's but only one wife :D!

I can deal with several project cars, but only one project sweetheart (or am I the...

Re: Do you use Mounted Dripping Oil Catch Pans?

Just remember with these catch cans/pans, you have to empty them. Otherwise it just fills up and drips on the floor again. I have a coating of kitty litter on the floor of the garage under the A and...

Re: Bad Day

Replaced the timing gear and now have the pan off. No signs of rod damage, but the little tool to hold the oil pump snapped off in the block (snyders). To make matters worse, it didn't hold the...

Re: Embarassing momments

Placed the wrong size ball on my trailer hitch when I had to pick the A up for a mechanical break down. Turned out to be a battery issue and I got it started with the hand crank. Drove the A up on...

Re: Blowing water out of radiator cap

I too am new to A's and typically order a lot of stuff online that sounds good while looking through catalogs but doesn't always get on the car. In the case of overflow from the quail I eventually...

Re: how do you tyime the model A when you crank gear has no mark

I know this thread is kind of old, but my thanks to Tom for posting the picture. I too couldn't find the mark on the crank gear until I knew exactly where to look for it. The mechanics handbook...

Oops,

I thought that cotter pin looked wrong and pulled it out the other day. What have I screwed up now?

Re: Winter Storage Question

Anyone got a great solution for eliminating mouse scent after winter storage? Not sure if it's in the upholstery as much of the rock wool(?) seems to have been lost over the past few winters...

Re: How come "Car Collectors" don't like Model A's?

So let's hijack this a little,

How many blow the horn just for fun when driving an A?

I've found that the snob(?) vehicles in parades just drive on by with the crowd talking and pointing. ...

Re: Brake roller tracks

I used a mapp gas torch recently and as others said, the rivet cools down pretty quick. Beat the heck out of it with my air hammer cold with no luck. Had to try about four times moving from the...

Smile Re: Alternator -vs-generator

My goal is to keep as much original as I can afford (and stand).

That said I plan to rebuild the dead generator that the PO had swapped out for an alternator one day. As I recall, Ford had a lot...

Re: Are air filters a bad idea?

Don't bother with the high boy from Snyders. It shook itself off the carb twice before I changed the hose that came with it. Then it shook the rubber mount for the air filter to pieces within 20...

Re: Bad Day

Thanks for the tip on turning the steering. I had thought about disconnecting the tie rod to get the linkage out of the way.

Strange design, since the timing cover is part of the front mount...

Re: Bad Day

Cam gear is definitely shot. Not turning when I hand crank the engine and the side visible with the cover removed has a missing tooth as well.

I assume this is a non-interference motor. When the...

Re: Bad Day

Having trouble finding a swivel to get the last few oil pan bolts out, but no signs of metal fragments in the oil yet. Just for fun I pulled the distributor cap and cranked the engine. No movement on...

Bad Day

Took the 31 roadster out for a parade and later a country drive. Everything worked great. Later I started her up to go on one more drive and half a mile from the house the throttle jammed and the...
