Re: 46 convertible cowl adjustment brackets

Here is a zoomed in picture from a ‘41 Mercury Convertible off Bringatrailer.com. This is one of the only pictures I could find showing them. It is kind of hard to see since it is body color but...

Re: 1941 Convertible Window Regulators

Fred at Southside is getting me taken care of with a NOS regulator so thank you for the recommendation.

Side note: Bryan at 1946Ford.com can rebuild them but it was slightly more than the NOS...

Re: 1941 Ford Convertible Motor/Lift Lower Mounting

I’d love a diagram too. The motors that came out of the car have four wires each but my nos motors only have three (looks like they don’t have a red wire). I have a switch with some wire still...

1941 Convertible Window Regulators

The teeth on my driverside window regulator are worn. I either need to get it fixed or find one.

Is anywhere rebuilding them?

Are ‘41-‘48 all interchangeable?

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

I jumped the gun on that assumption. The pin lines up vertically so swapping it to the other side had zero effect. Just needed to adjust the shifter linkages. Was overthinking it without everything...

Re: 1941 Ford Convertible Motor/Lift Lower Mounting

Thank you so much. Guess my holes disappeared with rust repairs by the previous owner. Sounds like most ‘41s are just disconnected from what I’m coming across.

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

Everything is freed up, greased, and reinstalled. Installed the linkages and it runs through all the gears. Learned a lot on this supposed to have been quick steering column tube install.

Thanks...

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

Digging through my boxes of parts that came with the car looking for my shifter arm I came across a set of nos gear selector arms so the previous owner must have know about the rhd column.

I...

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

I am now paranoid that my shifter components are rhd too. Are they even different? If so, how can I tell? Looks like the key is located on the right side for both setups.

Judging by the grease...

Re: convertible top electric motor rebuilder

My understanding is 41s & 42s are both electric screw jacks that are a different design for each year but interchangeable.

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

Heat and ice for the win. Originally fought it for an hour… took 10 minutes the second time with heat and ice water.

Thanks everyone for your help!

My takeaways are:
- sounds like maybe there...

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

Okay, I got everything torn apart and the worm gears are different. I have the correct worm gear within a 1/4 inch of being all the way on the correct shaft and it won’t budge any further. Going to...

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

Was basing it being a right hand drive box solely based on it being a mirror image of the box I removed from the car. It is stamped with 78F-3550. I also found the bare column that has blue paint...

Perfect, and I’m guessing the worm gear can’t be removed?

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

Thanks Ken… just wanted to make sure it was doable before tearing into them. I assume it’s pretty self explanatory once you’re in there?

1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

My ‘41 Convertible just had a steering column shaft with no column installed when I got it (pictured on top). It also came with a complete steering column assembly (pictured on bottom). I went to...

Re: 1941 Ford Convertible Motor/Lift Lower Mounting

I installed my top frame and connected the motors/transmissions. What are they supposed to bolt down to? What am I missing here?

1941 Ford Convertible Motor/Lift Lower Mounting

Does anyone have a diagram or picture of how the electric convertible top motor/lifts mount to the floor? My service bulletin book doesn’t show mounting details. Not sure if I’m missing any brackets...

Re: 1941 Ford Convertible Rear Seat

Thank you! I think I found a picture of a convertible where you can see the wood brace. Looks like there are tabs on the floor board like on my coupe. Do you have tabs on yours?

1941 Ford Convertible Rear Seat

Just picked up a ‘41 Ford Convertible project that’s in pieces. Going to start assembling some items to see what all I have and was going to start with the seats and steering column but not sure how...

Re: 1941 Ford Door Hinge Issues

Finally got this sorted out. The pin was broken in two spots. The inner portion of the hinge was basically just floating in place. Once the three pin pieces were removed we were able to drill the...

Re: 1941 Ford Door Hinge Issues

Alright picked up the car early. The passangerside lower hinge has a full 1/8th of pin movement in the center section of the hinge that screws to the cowl when picking up the door which is why the...

Re: 1941 Ford Door Hinge Issues

Thank you for the detailed post! I know there’s play when I lift the doors so I’ll check the screws and cowl when taking pictures after I pick up the car.

Re: 1941 Ford Door Hinge Issues

In the shops defense they are modifying the belt line trim for me and the hinges were not part of their job. They simply looked at them for me since they needed to get the trim to line up correctly....

I’m picking the car back up on Friday and I’ll take some and upload them.
