Re: Oil side lights-Anybody make locking clip for door?

I've made some out of an old lawn mower recoil spring. You have to anneal it, bend it then re-temper. Took a few tries to get the temper right but they looked like originals.

Re: electrodeposition to engine?

If a "new" block is that hard to find, I think it would be better to build it up with nickel rods then machine. You can plate iron on iron but it would be hard to "spot plate". The whole area would...

Re: t coil

There's nothing particularly reliable about a point system ignition whether it is stock Model T or distributor. The advantage of the Model T system is that there are four points and four coils (one...

Re: magneto workings

I wouldn't think so. The magneto is alternating current (AC). Thus the plugs are firing from ground as well as to ground in alternating frequency. If anything, this insures each collapse of the...

Re: Six to twelve volt conversion

The generator doesn't care what voltage you use. It will output up to a couple of volts above the field voltage. What does matter is that you will cut the available charging current in half too. The...

Re: doors

Can't help with the measurements but the 26/27 Coupe and Tudor doors have the same part number. 24" is pretty narrow. That sounds like a door off a Center Door Sedan.

Re: TIG welder

There's nothing cheap about my old ESAB and it has a dial on the torch and a pedal. You use which ever is most convenient. Pretty tough to use a pedal when you're on your back or on a ladder. But I...

Re: Wood plans

I don't believe Fordwood sells plans--Just the wood.
Contact Leon Parker. He hangs out on the MTFCA forum. He has full size wood drawings for many models and years.

Re: Resin casting of tail light lens.

Didn't get my supplies from that seller but I made some lenses a few years back. For red lenses, be sure to get the transparent tinting dye. Not all of them are--Some contain solids (like paint)....

Re: Free-bee is won

You should probably number these so there's no confusion.

I thought it was supposed to end Thursday. I protest! Since it hasn't "officially" ended, my guess is 252. :D

Re: instead of using poultry wire

You can do the same thing with heavy muslin for 1/4 the price and no dope needed. It's 100% cotton and will steam shrink. I don't know why folks have in their head to use "chicken wire" in tops. It...

Re: Replacement for Teflon tape

Except for the green and copper, it's the same material but different thicknesses. Here's a run-down on the types of thread sealing tapes.

Re: Plating Services...

There's nothing spectacular about the Watts chemistry. It's generally lower cost and used for flash plating under chrome. It has higher internal stresses that can lead to cracking. This is why it's...

Re: Model t wheels

They look black from here. Take some pictures outside in the light. They're worth nothing if no one can see them.

Re: Headlight wiring 1915

There should be a tube at the bottom of the radiator for the crossover wire. This is "the loom". Check to see if the crossover wire is extra long. You might be able use part of that for the ground...

Re: Aw, the way paint used to be

If it was lacquer, you shouldn't strain the lumps out. Keep mixing until it all dissolves. The clumps contain color. What's good about true lacquer is that it can be a dried clump in a can and you...

Re: Idea on steering quadrant screw?

It should be #6-32, round head machine screw. IIRC, it's 3/8" long.

Re: Sandblasting powercoated parts

I use a commercial stripper. It takes off powder coat in about 30 seconds, paint in 10 seconds and skin in about 3 seconds if you're not protected. It even removes anodizing from aluminum. It's not...

Re: Why not White paint?

White paint was/is made from lead carbonate. And lots of it. It turns brown with exposure to sulphur compounds (bird droppings, etc.) and chalks (oxidizes) quickly. It requires frequent polishing to...
