Re: Looking for the following 1928 Fordor Sedan owners

Hi Steve,
I just found your message on the Model A Ford Barn website, dated almost a year ago! I assume you were searching for owners of 1928 Fordor sedans, maybe in researching your article in...

Re: Spark plugs carbon fouling

I had the same problem with #1 cylinder only under my Serr-Miller head. I tried everything, nothing worked except very hot plugs fouled in #1 more slowly. The solution was to change the...

Re: Mallory dual point distributor ??

As far as I know, no Mallory distributor for the Model A has had a tach drive for a cable. There are at least 3 versions of the early Mallory, and they came in dual point or single, and several...

Re: 'Gotta ask again' about original electric wipers

As long as the internals are properly lubricated, there is no danger of damage by operating the blade manually. There should be lube between the pin and gear with the indent and it should not take...

Re: Length of front driveshaft bearing?

I did not add any spacers, it must be that the rear surface of the u-joint keeps the gear from moving too far forward, rather than the snap ring limiting its movement.

Re: Length of front driveshaft bearing?

Thanks for all of your responses, after putting the rear axle back in , the speedo gear was in the right place without too much play fore and aft,

Re: Oil drain problems

After you remove the pan and clean it up, the threaded insert that is spinning can be silver soldered or brazed. There are replacements inserts available from Model A parts suppliers if the threads...

Re: Buehrig replica

Gordon Buehrig was a famous classic car designer who worked for Auburn Automobile Company in the early 30's, and designed many cars that are considered the best of the best. He worked first for...

Re: Buehrig replica

Attached are photos of my latest project, a replica of Gordon Buehrig’s modified 1930 Model A Ford Cabiolet 68B. He named the car Baby, and said in later years it was his favorite car he ever owned,...

Re: Length of front driveshaft bearing?

Thanks for your replies, but the driveshaft seal is new and intact beneath the bearing (I installed it), so I don't think that is the cause of the gap. I measured the bearing again, and it is 1...

Length of front driveshaft bearing?

I discovered that the speedo drive gear on the drivshaft has about 1/4" fore-aft movement. It seems to be aligned with the speedo gear when in the forward position against the snap retainer ring,...

Re: Early brakes questions!!

There were two "styles" of the equalizer brake system on the Model A. The first was on the earlier 1928 cars (until about May) that had the so-called AR brakes. This system had the emergency...

Re: wood graining HELP.

I can recommend Grain-It Technology system. I bought a used kit from a restorer and used it to do Mahogany straight grain on the moldings on a 1930 Cabriolet. There is a learning curve to it, and I...

Re: Water Outlet Gasket?

The accelerator arm spring is easy to put on if you remove the linkage from the flywheel housing first (have to take the floorboards out to accomplish easily). Once out, just push the spring to...

Re: Honey comb radiator

Ford did not use honeycomb radiators on the Model A. There were honeycomb radiators available on the aftermarket, that must be where it came from.

Re: NOS 21" rim??

I have seen quite a few original 21" rims with some of all of the original cardboard, or fiberboard, rim strip still there. I think the rubber rim liner was a later innovation to protect the tube...
