Gary, I just went through the same process and installed the SS king pins a few months ago. As I recall the factory lock pins are tapered and will only go one way. I would say if you got them to move...

1950 Ford Custom King Pins
Am trying to install new Royal SS king pins in my 1950 but can not remove the lock pin from the Knucle 352655s the green book says to remove by moving it fwd meaning it would come out from the grease...

Volume could be my problem 16 OZ. in 45 sec or less the best I get is 12 oz. I wanted to pull and clean the strainer but did not have a new gasket. Pressure 4.5 # on starter and Idle.
