This happened to me approx 30 years ago. The replacement had a bigger round part and worked well. It looked like a forging, not a casting. I do not remember where i got it.

I never knew about putting sealer material into the tank. I should get the shipment of filters in a few days. A few gallons of gasoline (no ethanol) will go in the tank. in a few days.

I like the idea of a gallon of acetone to clean out the red varnish. Why is the varnish red? With the late 31 tank there is no place for a pencil filter in the outlet of the tank that I can see....

They are called D-nuts (or Clinch nuts) of several sizes. For the floors they are 12-24 and are available from suppliers. Not expensive. Get more than you need to have stock for later.
