Re: Crank stroke before 49
If someone wants a 3 7/8 stroke crank I have one in central Texas. I don't have any plans for it, and would let it go very reasonably if you convinced me you would use it in an engine. PM me if...

Re: Introduction and What Do I have Here?
Remember, Ford Motor Company was, and still is, in the business of making and selling vehicles that people will buy. Ford Motor Company was not in the business of making concourse correct cars....

Re: Holley 94 Carb on 34 engine
Are you sure your ignition is good? Many of the perceived carburetor problems turn out to be ignition problems (and vice-versa).

Re: Introduction and What Do I have Here?
I second the recommendation to join the Early Ford V8 Club (https://www.earlyfordv8.org/). In addition to the book mentioned above I also recommend purchasing a copy of the club's magazines in pdf...

Re: Crank stroke before 49
Anything is possible, including converting a non-flathead V8 Ford crankshaft to fit into the V8 block (done at least a few times to get a flat plane crankshaft). Just because someone did it once does...

Re: 40 vs 39
Ford advertised more refinements than the three I list below, but I am not sure if each of those additional changes listed as a refinement was included for advertising purposes, or if each change...

Re: 40 vs 39
The driving experience is different between 39 Deluxe and 40. Ford did a lot of work to refine the driving experience for 1940 and it worked. The 40s are a much more refined car, nicer to drive. If...

Re: 2x2 on 8BA flathead
The question not asked: what distributor are you running? The stock distributor works very well with a stock single carburetor. As soon as you use dual carburetors you need a different ignition...

Re: Uvira Headlight Reflector Coating
I don't know if they are still available but I got reproduction headlight lenses from Drake that were manufactured with the same coating process. Those along with new headlight lenses made a huge...

Re: flat head assembly
I recommend getting the 1953 Ford Passenger Car Shop Manual, available reprint or original from several sources.

Re: 35/36 gray
Exact original paint color is a tough ask. Ford mixed batches of paint at the various assembly plants, with no guarantee every batch at every plant was actually the same shade. Next, the color chips...

Re: 53 Customline is in New Zealand
New Zealand is a wonderful place, and the Kiwi early V8ers are very nice people. My wife and I attended the New Zealand V8 Club Nationals last month in Kaikoura, then spent a week driving...

Re: Metric Ring Sets
I am very skeptical there is much of any horsepower to be had below 3,000 rpm from metric rings in a flathead. The Engine Masters show did a back to back dyno comparison where they took a small...

I have a complete rear axle, drum to drum, from a 41 3/4 ton. It will probably be a couple weeks before I get back to it, PM me for more information.
