Re: how to keep windshield open

Speed isn't causing the problem. I've experienced a combination of leverage acting on the windshield, vibration, and worn parts that don't fit right.

Re: OT: Question about auto electrical test device

I appreciate the very helpful information from everyone. I'll do some preliminary testing to make sure the unit is in working order before I attempt to do any real-world testing on my cars. My best...

Re: 42 Mercury Sedan Idles Then Dies Video

Always begin with the easy stuff...replace the condenser with a new or known to be good one. Old condensers can sometimes be the Achilles heel of many reliability issues. They can sometimes cause...

Re: 53 Mercury unequal steering

Have never worked on a '53 Merc, but doesn't the pitman arm have a master spline to locate it on the splined shaft?

Re: OT: Question about auto electrical test device

Rotorwrench,
I appreciate your helpful explanation. As previously stated, I'm electrically challenged to some degree although I do have a pretty good grasp of the basics. For my 6 volt, positive...

Re: OT: Question about auto electrical test device

Yes, your info is very helpful. Thanks! My electrical knowledge and skills are not as proficient as I would like, but I know that there are nuances with certain electrical test equipment that can...

Re: OT: Question about auto electrical test device

51woodie,
That's good to know. Thanks for the feedback. The instruction manual makes no mention anywhere about using the analyzer on a positive ground vehicle, but perhaps they assumed the user...

Re: Starting mystery solved. Repo distributor

Who did you buy them from? Quality condensers are hard to come by.

Re: OT: Question about auto electrical test device

Herb,
It does have capabilities to read and measure 6 volt values, but no mention in the manual about using on 6 volt POSITIVE ground. It can test a lot of things including condensers. I want to...

OT: Question about auto electrical test device

A friend gifted me with a vintage Heathkit auto analyzer unit. It's in very nice shape and has all the test leads and accessories that came with it along with the instruction manual. My question is,...

Re: My new 1930 2-dr sedan

Not meaning to sound like a college lecture, but to help clarify with a more accurate lexicon. I was wondering about the correct usage of the word and found this on the ole interweb...I thought I...

Re: engine question

Super neat car! I have a passion for old Ford survivors. It' your car, but I wouldn't do anything to it that would harm its originality; just do what it needs to make run reliably and stop safely. ...

Re: Adjustable lifter issue

I think Loctite Blue would be a better choice for this application. At least you have some chance of turning the adjusting screw, albeit with some effort.

Re: 47 Flathead Water Pump Swap Tricks?

The answer to your question is...yes, it can be done with radiator in place. Remove only what you need to. Take your time and take a few breaks during the job. Since you know about the bolt inside...

Re: Laurel and Hardy driving a Model A

Synchro,
Good catch! I don't know what's going on there either. I've seen photos of those "skirted" front fenders on '33-'34 cars but never on a Model A. I think the skirted front fenders were...

Re: 40 oil pan install

All of the engine rebuilder books and articles I've ever read say to soak them in oil before installing. Every gasket kit I've seen has an instruction sheet that says the same thing. I've found the...

Re: When do you change your oil ?

A question back to you...how frequently have you been doing oil changes up to now? In miles or months?

Re: 40 oil pan install

As TerryOh says, push it down firmly into the seal groove and don't feel the need to trim too much off the ends. You want it to fit snuggly against the block without allowing leaks. If you have the...

Re: Brake Cross Shaft Locations?

I checked some of my Model A reference books, but no luck with the measurements you need. I would go with Nkaminar's recommendation to be sure you get it right the first time.

Re: Starting mystery solved. Repo distributor

I gave up using the modern style points for that reason long ago. I buy all the OEM style points I can find. They seem to be made better and the phenolic rubbing block lasts longer once they have...

Re: 1928 roadster top boot strap

I don't know what the strap length is. Maybe this link can provide a clue...the description includes the number "21". Reckon that means they are 21" long? At any rate, Mac's shows to be out of...
