Re: Exterior black rubber trim question

I have an H3 with lots of hard black plastic that's gone grey. I've tried several basic trim restorers (Maguires, 3M, etc.) they work but then fade out in a few months. The best results I've had is...

Re: brake light issue with my 55 Fairlane.

Hi Ted,

I had this happen about 5 years back, brake lights just stopped working (but blinkers and parking lights were good) ... the test mentioned by Paul2748 is the clearest way to pin point...

Re: Distributor ID.

I found some old notes that say the FEU in the part number isn't a reference to the engine type, rather the "FE" indicates the distributor has ball bearing breaker plates, the "U" = '58, and per the...

Re: '54 Ranch Wagon Window Channel

I can't say if it's front or rear, but I'd guess rear as on my 55 I recall the front one being a big longer and riveted to the inside of the door.

For replacement, several years ago I picked up...

Re: starter drive

You're right Dave,
I pulled the starter, came out easily, and I found that in the starter drive mechanism there is a thin washer or disc spring that holds tension on the Folo-Thru device. ...

Re: starter drive

Hi All,
Somewhat related to these post, I have a question on how to troubleshoot a bendix that isn't engaging. I have a 55 Fairlane, 292, manual transmission, 6v system. I've never had starter...

Re: 6-V electric fuel pump?

Hi Dave, coincidentally this was one of my projects last weekend on my '55 Sunliner. I installed a 6v Brock Electric Fuel Pump (part no. U886-9092) which I picked up on Amazon. It looks exactly...

Re: 1954 Mercury electrical question

For what it's worth, another option to look at ... last year on my '55 I swapped out the 6v generator for a 6v Powermaster PowerGEN 82106 Alternator that looks like a generator. So far have driven...

When putting new radials on my '55 the lead weights used to balance them slightly prevented the hubcap from fitting snuggly. Also...

Re: 1956 Ford 292 ci. water temp.

Hi Babyboomerboy,

I have a 160 degree thermostat in my '55 292 c.i. and after warmed up my aftermarket VDO gauge shows about 160-170 in the spring or fall when not too hot out (below 75F). In...

Re: 1955 Ford poor brake performance

ditto on Lanny's questions, and also I'd add
- can you reference it against experience you've had with brakes in another '40-50's era car?
- do you notice any pulling to one side?
- what brake...

Re: oddball y-block

Hey Sidevalve,

Thanks for sharing that, I went to school in Lincoln and never heard of the place. I guess the poor student aspect of life there had some influence.

Re: Hard Start when hot.

While I know your system is a 12 volt, the issue you describe is common with a 6 volt system. Often can be resolved by checking that all cables (battery, starter, solenoid) are in good shape and...
