Re: Tillotson carb
Do you know when the Tillotson X came out & when it got in the Ford books?
My 1950 Ford Book shows the A carb xuperceded by the B carb, but no listing for a Tillotson.
But from this thread &...

Re: Auction results in Varina Va.
All those carbs!
Back when I was age 6 my dad would always bring me home a $1 Zenith Carb to play with and squirt water in. That's how it began. By age 8 I had my 1st one running on the car. Didnt...

Re: Front bumper differences
Thanks again. The latest Judging Standard I have is 1989 & kinda vague.
They just mention the August 1930 change from 62-7/8 to 60" length.
My Dec 28 car measures 63-1/8 with a tape measure but...

"Could be the Jets"

I noticed our A was running rich cuz I'd have to turn the choke mix adjustment all the way in. So tore into the carb, which had been rebuilt...

Re: Front bumper differences
Wow thanks for all that. It's been a while, my last Nationals was 2003 at Deatborn. Our car is 4 Dec 1928. I just laid a straightedge across from the bumper bracket hole to the end bolt hole. It's...

Re: Little Dearborn
If its any consolation, the whole CPI for prices is up almost exactly 10x since 1964 so its easy to figure today's prices from 1963-64.

Re: Tillotson carb
All the OEM Model A's were either Holley or Zenith carbs (look the same, cast iron body, details differ like venturi and brass vs steel fittings).
Tillotson was aftermarket, but I do wonder when...

Re: Fans
Thats what I thought. The article just says "4-blade original truck fan", which implies original Model A but doesnt say that outright.
And this is the original "How To Restore your Model A" 2nd...

Re: Tillotson carb
There are two external plugs in the Tillotson from drilling the internal passages.
Zenith also has two, but they are brass so less likely to leak. I would guess the original Tillotson plugs were a...

Re: Front bumper differences
Other than the early 28 AR and the clamps I'm not seeing a difference between the 28 and 29 bumper bars, is that shown anywhere?

Re: Opinion Re Differential Gear Ratio
Any examples of what head, carb, cam to run?
Obviously too much cam will take away low end power, but sometimes just more lift on a modern grind will help.
Our 28 A still has the original...

Re: Fans
pg98 volume 1 of MAFCA's How To Restpre Your Model A tests 4 types of fans for cooling.
They test a 4-blade & refer to it as a truck fan.
I forgot, did the A truck or AA have a 4-blade fan?

Re: First start of the season
I've started to wonder about additives to protect the gas tank while sitting, given all the ethanol aka water in our gas these days.
Anybody have a favorite?
