Re: Ruidoso MAFCA meet

I am very concerned about the meet, but more importantly, I am concerned about the people who may loose their houses or businesses, or God forbid, loved ones. I called my hotel and they are...

Re: New Stipe Camshafts

Brent, Well said. I have a friend who is in the hospital dying right now. However, I sympathize with Bill Stipe. Loosing your income in retirement must be hard.

As I am getting ready to drive...

Re: Cast Drums versus Steel Drums

The only reason to use the original steel drums is if you are going to show the car and not drive it. That means taking it to the shows in a trailer and just running it enough to get to your...

Re: Ruidoso MAFCA meet

In the news this morning (Tuesday, June 18), there are two fires surrounding Ruidoso and the town is being evacuated. Unless the news improves by tomorrow morning, I will have to cancel my trip.

Re: Water pump packing

If you plan on driving your car a lot or just hate fiddling with it, then I would suggest a new leakless water pump. See https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/product.htm?pid=984030&cat=41793

Re: Connecting rod play

Yes. I am not sure how much is too much. I would day up to 0.050 inch would be OK, but that is just a guess.

If the rod is bent or twisted it will bang back and forth and create a knocking...

Re: Fixed - 1929 Model A With 12v Conversion

Re: Is the bendix a nigtmare?

I have a modern Bendix in my car with no problems. The bolts are captured so they do not come out. See https://modelastore.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4110. That one is out of...

Re: Can’t determine battery ground

Any car stored 40 years ago will need more than a battery. The air in the tires is very old and needs to be replaced.

Re: Tail light & Cowl Light pigtails

Unless you are going to be taking your electrical system apart, the modern crimp connectors will work great, especially the ones with the heat shrink tubing built in. The crimping, if done with the...

Re: Can’t determine battery ground

Rob Doe brings up a good point. Do you know if it was 12 volts or 6 volts? One way to check would be to take a bulb out of the tail light and hook it up to a 6 volt battery. If it is dim then the...

Re: Can’t determine battery ground

The connectors for the battery terminals are different sizes. I forget which one is slightly larger. Try to fit the connectors and if they do not fit reverse them and try again.

Re: Head Gasket Seeping Above Serial Number

Re torquing the head bolts is a maintenance thing. The sequence is not important. If it has not been done in a while, start at 45 foot-pounds, then 50, then the final 55 foot-pounds. You don't...

Re: Too much gear lube

Maybe there was foam in the oil that diminished when the oil cooled down. Y-Blockhead said that some 600W oil foams (post #14). I have had the best luck with modern gear lube (85W-140 G5). It has...

Re: Carb leak

If your valve leaks and you want to continue to use it, you can add some EZ-Turn lubricant, see https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/ezturnlube.php. The lub works as a sealant but is not...

I have the F-100 box on my car. Not sure who did the work as it was on the car when I bought it. The end of a stock box has been welded onto the bottom of the box so that a stock light switch can...
