I would leave it in year round, but also flush the system and refill with fresh every year or two to keep things fresh

Hmm...sounds like an easy modification to get away from the original style bendix.
need to find the starter that mates up to the A flywheel then just space it correctly with it's mounting adapter

Don't forget to put a small angle on the ends of the shoe linings insted of a 90 deg. cut
Thats most likley the source of any noise and or squeal, but could also add to the tendency for the brakes...

Just loosen the clamp and reposition it where the clamp and cowl light / block all fit. The clamps don't have an exact location for installation as far as I know

There's something that California still has going for it, if you need the "vin" number verification they want to see the frame number. They could care less about any numbers on the engine :rolleyes:

Engine purchased from a rebuilder that came from some other car. When installed in your car the factory #’s do not match your paperwork or registration

A couple of bolts and the little side timing cover will be off. turn the motor over by hand and look at the timing gear teeth. Worth a look :)

Usually, a bad head gasket affects one or two cylinders only, and almost all of the time the engine will run just not well. You said that you have spark to the plugs but is it at the correct time ?

Yea, the advance is backwards. You can change the Bosch 009 ( A centrifugal advance only distributer) by revirsing the way the weights advance.
Also the 009 type does not retard the #3 firing, that...

Yep, pull the starter forward and a few drops of a lightweight oil on the bendix spiral area to get it moving freely and you should be good to go.
Just dont over do it with the oil :)
