Re: Another carb needs repair

I have watched every Model A video Randal has on his channel. Some multiple times. I, too, watched his video a couple hours after he posted. Way to go Randall! Keep 'em comin', I get a little smarter...

Re: Polarity tester

Guys, here are my thoughts on Model A coil polarity.

Each time a given cylinder's piston approaches TDC on the power stroke, that cylinder's spark plug fires a series of sparks across the gap...

Re: Polarity tester

Am I confused? If you change the polarity of the battery ground as in 12 volt negative ground, you have to reverse the ammeter leads or the gauge will read incorrectly, as in backwards. Why would we...

Re: I give up

Where does the term 1-1/4" come from? I've never seen that before, anywhere. All I've ever seen is 1" or 15/16". Verify that the fuel level (not the float height) in the float bowl is correct....

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

Shew01, thanks for posting back. I enjoy posting on these issues. It helps me retain the information I have learned on this forum and other sources:

Suggest you plug the wiper line, as suggested...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

Shew01:

With the vacuum gauge hooked up, you turned the idle air adjustment screw full in and the car dies (as it should). Correct?

With the wiper line hooked up, you turned the idle air...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

Shew01, remember, that a professionally refurbished carb can be immediately contaminated by dirty fuel. Is your sediment bowl clean?

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

Shew01, suggest you use a torque wrench to tighten those pretty plugs with new gaskets to 25 foot pounds or 300 inch pounds.

Re: help! clutch won‘t disengage…

As I recall, if you remove the floorboards and the clutch inspection window cover, you can see the springs as they come past. Use the hand crank to turn the engine over???

Re: Transmission pops out of third gear

TJ:

Do you have a copy of Les Andrews blue book, "Troubleshooting and Diagnostics"? Chapter 2 page 39 list 7 issues that will cause the transmission to pop out of high gear.

1. The input shaft...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

Am I confused? 3.5 turns out on the idle air mixture screw would be allowing additional air into the idle circuit. Wouldn't this compensate for a rich mixture, rather than a lean one????

Thumbs up Re: Installing New Brake Rods on 31 Cabriolet as part of total restoration

Blockhead, I made the same mistake watching the video again this morning. Back up just a bit. The key has a bevel on two ends, opposite sides. Almost every sentence the presenter says is important.:)...

Re: Installing New Brake Rods on 31 Cabriolet as part of total restoration

Ed, as a Model A "Novice" myself, here is an excellent youtube video that I used to quickly advance my knowledge of the Model A brake systems. You can purchase copies on CD from the vendors, but...

Re: 1931 Model A not turning over

Do you have a voltmeter? A test light? A hydrometer to test the battery? The Les Andrews red book?

Make sure your battery cables are clean, bright and tight at both ends. On a stock wired Model...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

X2 on your post #11, Shew01. Stalling at stops has a list of possible causes, but in my brief Model A experience, a proper setting of the base idle air mixture is the first place to start. When one...

Re: Next problem is... locked rear brakes

It's easy to mistake a grinding rear for a grinding front brake. I just had that problem a few months ago. The rear brake required a shim on the axle. The shim quieted the rubbing, but I bought a new...
