Re: Tires

I was so interested in seeing if there was a better tire size than the 155/70R19 but I couldn't find any that had a higher sidewall from three different tire distributors. So if anyone now (or in the...

Re: Tires

Nice. Hope they work out well for you! I would think that even a 155 tire would be too wide for the Model A rims but if it worked for you then it must not be.

Re: Front Hub Stuck to Brakes

If you want to call it that. Really it's to take up the slack in the operating pin. I wouldn't try swallowing these pills, though :)

Re: Front Hub Stuck to Brakes

Glad to hear that I might not have to do invasive surgery. The brakes are tighter than normal when adjusting but I can probably wear them down. After I put my rear brakes together I'll let you know...

Re: Tires

I'm more interested in the fact that you were able to get tubeless tires to fit on your Model A rims. What size tire did you end up going with, and how was the mounting process?

Re: Front Hub Stuck to Brakes

I'd be glad to give more detail. As Bob stressed this is for the FRONT hub and drum. The outer bearing is firm in the hole along with the keyed washer so I can't get that out at the moment.

As for...

Not a bad suggestion but it didn't budge when I did that

Front Hub Stuck to Brakes

I recently redid the front brakes on my A and wanted to put the front hub&drum on. At first I had an issue with it going in and then I was able to push it on. But now I want to take the hub off and...

Re: Washer for Rear Backing Plate

So my old setup solves both issues you outlined in your article, Tom. The original style bolts have a shorter shoulder area (more threads) so the castle nuts won't bottom out on the bolt. And the...

Re: Washer for Rear Backing Plate

Funny thing is that the bolts look nearly brand new for being the old style. I see that these nuts are also the later style shouldered nut (per...

Tight Fit for Inner Wheel Bearing

I'm going through the bearings for the front of my car and found that the inner wheel bearings do not come off easily. I had to chisel them out which took the better part of an hour for both sides....

Washer for Rear Backing Plate

I found some unusual hardware when I took off my rear backing plates on my '31 coupe. When someone did the brakes last, they put some sort of washer on the bolts that go through the backing plate....

Re: 1930 Model “A” Fordor MANY upgrades for comfortable touring

Sounds like you have a lot going for you in that car Amanda. I'm sure someone will be really happy with it.

A senior member of my local chapter and Model A enthusiast for 60 years told me that he...

Re: charging

Your car may also not charge at idle if your brush is only 1/3 down.Try going to a fast idle or just rev the engine slowly to see how much charge you are putting out at different RPM. The charge rate...

Re: 30 Model A engine rebuild

I know people will recommend a Burtz block, and honestly I want to go to one too when my motor quits, but a few people in my club who work around/have them have had problems with trying to get them...

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

This is great! Thanks for the added detail; I missed the vacuum port since I didn't see a line coming off of it. Thanks for all of your help!

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

If this is as you say it is, then what does one look like if the vehicle had vacuum wipers? Did they have a vacuum port somewhere else?

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

I tried finding pictures of a RHD intake manifold on Google but I couldn't find anything. Do we think that's what this might be?

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

Here's a picture of the exhaust manifold for those interested. My engine's VIN indicates that it was made in Feb. '31. But I believe that you are right about it being a late '31 exhaust manifold. But...

"Special" Intake Manifold?

I recently had a member of my club take a look at my car and he noticed that I had a non-standard intake manifold on my engine. Even though he's been around Model As for 60 years he wasn't familiar...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

I also noticed that when I took the hub off that it had this weird ridge in it. Is the hub bad or is this okay to reuse?

It's a pleasure to hear that you want to keep your car in good shape for your kids, rashmore. Mine's a 4th generation car but it wasn't kept up like it should have, which was disappointing to me the...
