Re: Valve Tappet problem
I set valve stem to lifter clearance in my Model T by grinding off a little bit of the stem with my bench grinder. I made a little jig to lay the valve in and to keep it perpendicular to the side of...

That's what I did about three years ago. Haven't had a fuel system problem since!

Re: Radial tires
If you drive a lot, switch to radials! The difference in ride, handling and braking is like the difference between night and day! I had four 15" Jeep rims lying around and just for fun bought two...

Re: Damned if you do and..............
I have never owned a vehicle where the seatbelts were attached to the frame. In most vehicles the lap belts were bolted to the sheet metal floor and the shoulder harness to a spindly door post. And...

Re: Generator Voltage
I've run my EVR with the third brush at max for over four thousand miles with no problems yet! I replaced my generator brushes a year ago and noted no damage to the generator! I would be confident,...

Re: Any news on obtaining reliable ammeter?
When I converted to six volt sealed beam headlights, I replaced my original, perfectly serviceable Ford 20 amp ammeter with a cheap 30 amp one from Tam's because with high beams and brake lights on...

Re: 600R16 vs. bias ply tires
I got sick of the rough ride my 4.50 x 21 tires were giving me so I scavenged four 15" wheels off a wrecked old Postal Jeep, mounted four 225 R75 15 Goodyear Wranglers on them, bolted two to the rear...

Re: Generator Voltage
If you have sealed beam headlights, you may have to set the third brush to full output to produce the maximum amps. I have an electronic voltage regulator on my generator on a six volt positive...

Re: Front Brake Drum Removal from Hub?
5/8 hole saws from Lowe's or Home Depot's online sites worked for me and are cheap! By more than one, as they can disintegrate if used too aggressively!

Re: tire pressure
I got tired of the rough ride of my 21" Universals! I mounted four 225-75 -15 Goodyear Wranglers to some 15" Jeep rims that were kicking around. The rims bolted to the rear hubs fine, but required...

Re: Air filter for Model A
I agree! Unless you are driving in a sandstorm, what use is the air filter on an updraft carb? Any type of debris that would be substantial enough to damage the engine would be too heavy to be sucked...

Re: Overheating
Imagine the block was completely clogged with rust! How much heat would be transferred by the coolant to the radiator? Little to none! The more clogged your cooling passages in your engine, the less...

Re: Overheating
An engine is only going to produce a certain amount of heat! The total heat output does not rise that much if the cooling passages around a cylinder are clogged! Sure there will be additional...

Re: Overheating
Bite the bullet and spring for a new radiator! It will either solve the problem or at least eliminate one of the possible causes! Old round tube radiators (especially the 28-29's) were marginal at...

Re: Trickle Battery Charger
My Montgomery Ward 12/6 volt 8 amp charger has a manual timer on it which also works as an on/off switch. Twist the knob to the number of hours you think necessary and it shuts off by itself! Also...

Re: Nurex precision-timing-kit
Yup! It's interesting to see how much advance you are actually getting when you advance the spark lever. Also puts your mind at ease that you are not giving that $3,000.00 rebuild too much advance....

Re: Panhard Bar "Do It Yourself"
Wow! I am very impressed with the engineering! The Model A's transverse spring and hangers act just like my late great aunt's "Lawn Glider" that we used to get swinging way beyond its design...

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge
Oil pressure gauges are very interesting when installed on a Model A. Cold engines in cold weather can show 15 psi or more until the engine warms up and the pressure drops considerably. Synthetic...

Re: Searching for a phenolic carb spacer
I've seen frost on my TT's Holley NH on muggy summer days, so I am wondering how hot does a cast iron Zenith really get? The fuel available in the late '20's was half kerosene, so it stands to reason...
