Oil Filter canister - 1950 shoebox

We have an oil filter canister that was on when the car was purchased, but it is not plumbed - so it is just on there for show at the moment. I know there needs to be an .060 restrictor on the inlet...

Re: Spotlights on a 1950 Ford

Ok, got the thing completely disassembled and spend an hour or two cleaning out the old hardened, gunky grease. Went down the rabbit hole learning more about old grease and how to clean it out than I...

Re: Directionals switch

Well Son of a B...! It turns out the fuse block has two spots for a flasher unit. Moved the flasher unit to the other spot and it all works.

We blame an ex-boyfriend. Apparently he had been...

Re: Directionals switch

probably not the flasher unit at this point ... "We replaced the flasher unit with the same part, and still nothing." We are heading out to check the switch body to ground, and then the switch...

Re: Directionals switch

I guess this wasn't clear enough: "At one point they were working, but are not working now. So, assume the switch is wired correctly. All the other lights function correctly - parking lights (front...

Re: Directionals switch

Would that make sense even though all the lights function otherwise if the directional switch is not activated? Could it be that something in the switch itself is shorting to ground when activated?

Re: Directionals switch

If the wiring is wrong, how is it that it worked last year. Nothing has changed. So, if the brake light is supposed to flash - it currently is just turning off, and never comes back on. The front...

Re: Intake Manifold gasket material - 1950 V8

I just started pulling off the old gasket and it is definitely metal. Seems to be a paper-metal-paper sandwich, and it looks pretty old. The indications on the gasket were "MADE-IN-USA", "FEL-PRO",...

Intake Manifold gasket material - 1950 V8

We just had to remove the intake manifold and want to replace the gasket. What was on there looks like it was metal(?), but I am finding paper gasket replacements. What should I be looking for?

Re: Electric - "Alt Exciter" switch and light

Turns out it is a one wire alternator, so as far as I can tell... no exciter terminal.

Re: Electric - "Alt Exciter" switch and light

They also have a wire to the trunk for an electric fuel pump, so that's not it.

Re: Electric - "Alt Exciter" switch and light

Well, here's news... That wire labeled alt exciter doesn't even run to firewall forward - it runs somewhere to the back and we haven't ripped enough apart to find it yet but it terminates somewhere...

Re: Electric - "Alt Exciter" switch and light

Ok, so I might have been completely off base with "LED"... it is a regular bulb. But with a quick examination during a visit to where it is stored - it is a one wire alternator. When we have more...

"The exciter wire tells the alternator that the ignition is on and is the "turn-on" lead for the alternator. Power comes to that terminal from the battery, through the ignition...

Re: adding electric fuel pump

Flow through meaning the mechanical will still be able to such fuel through the electric pump when it is off - not all electric pumps will do/allow that.
