Re: Radiator splash apron
Here are both the 'new' one, and the original black one. The car is 1930. I just noticed the extra big hole on the right side of the primered one. Maybe this is for a 28-29. Note also the small...

Radiator splash apron
Picked up this splash apron at a swap meet, because it is in much better shape than my original. What is the purpose of this bracket? My original doesn't have it, and my photos of other cars don't...

Re: Oil pump
Thanks for the feedback. I know my engine is a rebuild from sometime in the distant past, and have no reason to drop the pan other than to see what is there. I really--REALLY- appreciate the...

Oil pump
I have learned about the bolt that acts as a set screw to keep the oil pump from dropping down when the oil pan is dropped. On my engine there is a tube feeding the oil filter. How do I deal with the...

Distilled water
I just read a post recommending distilled water in the radiator, and Paul Shinn's video does the same. Why distilled? I don't understand how hard water would affect an engine block or radiator.

Remove front fenders
In a couple recent posts one reader has recommended lifting the body a few inches to remove the front fenders. I am in the process of fitting my fronts to the car, and don't see the need to lift the...

Cowl light follow up
I found the centering tool at Snyder's, and the amber lenses at Bert's. With a new wiring harness, are the cowl lights on even when the head lights are on ?

Cowl lights
My 1930 does not have cowl lights, but I got a good pair at a swap meet for $5 apiece. For such a good deal these will be my front turn signals. I see that they are designed to go over the cowl...

Re: Ads
Thank you for the heads up about being signed in. There must have been a sun spot or something that eliminated my perpetual sign-in. I signed in, and clicked remember me, and the ads disappeared. ...

Ads
In just the past week or so, whenever I open the Ford Barn site I am deluged by many ads--much more so than in previous times. Is this due to the site contracting with more advertisers, or my ISP...

Re: Sealed beams
This has all been good feedback--just what I was hoping for. Just to be clear, I do not want the bug-eyed look of a sealed beam conversion, and was concerned about the two lens factor as described by...

I am not ready to tackle headlights yet, but I have been following the discussions about original vs halogen vs LEDs. Why are sealed beams not included in the discussions ?

Re: Hood fit with 29 cross member
That part of the project was a couple years ago, and I don't recall that hole alignment was an issue. The rivets had been replace with nuts and bolts, and I replaced those with grade 8 of the proper...

Hood fit with 29 cross member
My huckster-to-be was originally a 1930 coupe with all original (I believe) front end sheet metal when I bought it, and the hood fit well. In the course of total disassembly I discovered that the...

Thanks for all the feedback. With all the posts recommending flow-tested carbs or jets, I didn't want to foolishly ignore something critical. As a big advocate of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" I...

Flow testing a carb
My car came with a Tillotson, and it ran fine. A friend gave me a Zenith 2 that had sat on a shelf for at least 20 yrs, so I rebuilt it with a kit, including new jets, and it seems to run fine. Many...

There was a test of headlight bulbs in the Restorer two or three issues ago. I don't recall the result, but it was thorough and unbiased assessment of several options.
