Re: Enclosed car trailer for Model A

Sometimes I learn something new when people just answer the gentleman's question.

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

THAT'S IT!! You are hereby banished to the kids table!! Hahhaaa!

However, sometimes it feels like that's what they do on purpose.

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

I don't use, or own a Tillotson. I am talking about other people. Back to my original point, which I believe has been lost on this tough crowd- I carry parts for OTHER PEOPLE's cars because it only...

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

That is exactly what I bring along, with minor modification to one item- I bring a whole radiator cap and gasket. After having one stolen off my car in a hotel parking lot on an overnight tour.

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

Then, how do you transform the warped Tillotson carb on the car in front of you that keeps making everyone stop into a reliable Zenith?

I disagree that a carb wears more under the seat. I have...

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

The spare carb is not for myself. When one car breaks down, we all have to stop. I want to get back on the road, so when a Tillotson on another car fails, I grab my spare Zenith, slap it on there,...

Re: Sealed beams

To my knowledge, no. But these new LEDs are dang close since no external reflector is needed.

Re: Sealed beams

This video came out this morning showing and comparing the stock headlight bulbs, the LED bulbs, and the new "pre focused" LED bulbs- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvbNY2s3Egs

The Newton Wells...

Re: 2 tooth steering adjustment

If you decide to replace the whole works and want to go with the F-100 steering setup, Randy Gross makes the whole setup, and Randy's is made correctly so it won't break and cause a wreck.

Re: 2 tooth steering adjustment

The thrust bearing adjustment typically does feel like it suddenly bottoms out. If you get there, try pulling and pushing the steering shaft in and out of the box. If it doesn't move, you're good....

Re: engine stalling

I drive Model As almost everyday, and it doesn't happen. The part I'm talking about is Ed's opinion- "...quite common with a Model A". If it does, then I fix it.

Re: engine stalling

I disagree. In fact, I can slam n the brakes of any of my Model A's and not stall. Engine idle speeds are less than 400 RPM.

Re: engine stalling

As above, and from your description, it sounds like flooding. Could be float valve sticking open as above post mentioned. Could also be the jets coming loose from vibration or whatever, when hot,...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw

Like Fullrace said, looks perfect. If you were too lean, the electrode (metal part) would look sorta chalky white. Leave er be!

Re: Distributor rebuild.

That is used to cover the tab on the lower plate that would normally attach to the stock type condenser. Since this kit comes with the "modern" (junk) style condenser, that tab is just floating free...

Re: Distilled water

If I recall, Paul Shinn said he runs a distilled water and antifreeze mixture. Let's go ask him. Oh, wait....

On a Zenith carb (as OP has), yes. You are correct.

Re: Shortened pitman arm

The shortened pitman arm does make it easier to turn the wheels due to less drag link travel for the same steering wheel movement. It's like a different gear ratio in a transmission.

However, if...

Re: Randy Gross new brakes cost?

You're looking at just over a grand. Randy Gross' brake drums are the best there are, absolutely awesome.

Re: Adjusting Brake Rods

If your Model A was just rolling out of the factory and nothing has yet been modified, worn, used, no aftermarket or repro parts, and fresh, then the rods would all be correct. 95 years later, that...
