Re: Washer for Rear Backing Plate

Funny thing is that the bolts look nearly brand new for being the old style. I see that these nuts are also the later style shouldered nut (per...

Tight Fit for Inner Wheel Bearing

I'm going through the bearings for the front of my car and found that the inner wheel bearings do not come off easily. I had to chisel them out which took the better part of an hour for both sides....

Washer for Rear Backing Plate

I found some unusual hardware when I took off my rear backing plates on my '31 coupe. When someone did the brakes last, they put some sort of washer on the bolts that go through the backing plate....

Re: 1930 Model “A” Fordor MANY upgrades for comfortable touring

Sounds like you have a lot going for you in that car Amanda. I'm sure someone will be really happy with it.

A senior member of my local chapter and Model A enthusiast for 60 years told me that he...

Re: charging

Your car may also not charge at idle if your brush is only 1/3 down.Try going to a fast idle or just rev the engine slowly to see how much charge you are putting out at different RPM. The charge rate...

Re: 30 Model A engine rebuild

Sorry, I thought I corrected my phone's autocorrect. I didn't even know that Burt's was a thing until now

Re: 30 Model A engine rebuild

I know people will recommend a Burtz block, and honestly I want to go to one too when my motor quits, but a few people in my club who work around/have them have had problems with trying to get them...

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

This is great! Thanks for the added detail; I missed the vacuum port since I didn't see a line coming off of it. Thanks for all of your help!

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

If this is as you say it is, then what does one look like if the vehicle had vacuum wipers? Did they have a vacuum port somewhere else?

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

I tried finding pictures of a RHD intake manifold on Google but I couldn't find anything. Do we think that's what this might be?

Re: "Special" Intake Manifold?

Here's a picture of the exhaust manifold for those interested. My engine's VIN indicates that it was made in Feb. '31. But I believe that you are right about it being a late '31 exhaust manifold. But...

"Special" Intake Manifold?

I recently had a member of my club take a look at my car and he noticed that I had a non-standard intake manifold on my engine. Even though he's been around Model As for 60 years he wasn't familiar...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

I also noticed that when I took the hub off that it had this weird ridge in it. Is the hub bad or is this okay to reuse?

Re: A newbie needs help!

It's a pleasure to hear that you want to keep your car in good shape for your kids, rashmore. Mine's a 4th generation car but it wasn't kept up like it should have, which was disappointing to me the...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

Made some progress yesterday. One thought was to drill the side of the nut and try to twist it or break it off. Then I realized that the shoulder at the end of the nut would be impossible to get to...

Re: Time for a new battery???

The corrosion in the first picture doesn't look normal in my opinion. I see the label peeled back but I'm not sure what it's revealing. It may be nothing, but the swelling in the second picture is...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

Bruce, you are correct. All the lug nuts are off except for this one. I believe that I need to invest in a good carbide burr set and a pneumatic die grinder and go from there. If not i'll take the...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

I've actually tried using a carbide burr but every cutting implement I use becomes dull so quickly, even when I use cutting oil. I think I can try taking the rim off and drilling it using Synchro's...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

I should clarify that the wheel is still on the car. As Gene observed the yellow is the rim. And I do have a 10 gal air compressor

I did try putting the car's weight on the wheel but no luck...

Re: Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

I am planning on getting new drums for sure. But I think I'm past the point of breaking the nut in half with a chisel. The middle that you see is what remains of the stud and not the lug nut

Removing Lug Nut from Spinning Stud

On the driver's side rear wheel, one of the studs is spinning on the drum, and I couldn't get the lug nut off. Dad and I were team tagging on trying different methods of getting it out. Cutting it,...

Clamp-on O2 Sensor

I was curious if anyone has any experience with using a clamp-on 02 sensor to tune their A? I have a vacuum gauge that I've used but I can't use it while I'm driving. I also don't want to mess up my...

Re: Model A and T Upholsterers

I would be interested, too. I'd like to change the seat springs on my A to new ones and would need the seat fabric changed over. If it turns out to be in his favor let me know who he is and I could...
