Re: 1953 Mercury unusual plug condition
Given the way the intake manifold is made, reading an O2 sensor on one bank is really reading 2 cylinders from one side of the carb and 2 cylinders from the other. Putting 2 O2 sensors really doesn't...

Re: 1949 F-1 carb linkage trouble
The spring is attached to the linkage correctly for a truck; but the carb end should go to a hole in the plate with the choke cable clamp.

Re: 1949 F-1 carb linkage trouble
I don't think that is a stock truck carb. Is there another hole that the ball at the carb end could be placed in? You seem to be right that it is trying to pull at the wrong angle, because the ball...

Re: Just out of curiousity
Pretty sure from '53-on the trucks came with turn signals and dual tail/brake lights as standard. They were optional on 49-52's but were not the type that is integrated into the steering wheel. Aside...

Re: Ford flathead 49 to 53 oil pan difference
Yes, they are different. If you look on the dipstick itself, it will have "8RT", "8BA", or "8CM" (Merc) stamped on it.
8RT dipstick: 12-5/8" from cap to Full mark
8BA dipstick: 13-3/8" " " "...

Re: Tonneau covers for 48-50 f-1’s
If your '50 was made late in the year, it will be the same as a '51. The 48 - mid-50 beds had raised panels on the bedsides, the late-50 thru '52 beds have flat sides. The tailgates also have minor...

Re: '48 truck oil pressure gauge
The gauges can be adjusted, and they seem to "age" towards lower readings. It needs to be done slowly and carefully. FWIW, my dash gauge has always read about the same as yours, and a mechanical...

Re: Camshaft choices
Not so much the weight (~3200 lbs) but the aerodynamics of a barn door. They need good torque at highway speeds or you'll be into the power valves. I'm geared about the same (3.50) with 28" tires,...

Re: T18 to a 1948 239 F3
Why are you having to double clutch a 3-sp? Are the synchro's shot? Or do you have the 4-sp spur gear non-synchro?

It confirms yours is not WC.

Re: 8BA distributor questions
The 7RA casting number indicates it is an earlier (than '53) housing, but that doesn't identify the internals. Not really much difference between trucks from 48 - 53 other than the lengths already...
