Re: Too much gear lube

FINAL OUTCOME. When I pulled the top plug on the transmission and the rear axle this cool morning, the fluid levels were right where they should be. As long as I was under the car I changed the lube...

Re: Too much gear lube

If you let the car cool down before checking levels, you will lessen the chance of burning yourself on the muffler.

Boy don't I know that.

Re: Too much gear lube

Thanks all for the responses. My history. I've owned this car for more than 30 years and have done most all maintenance myself. I keep an eye on the levels and this is the first time I've ever...

Re: Too much gear lube

Old31. Thanks for your reply. I can see hoe a transmission could be overfilled if you had the top of the box off and put the lube in. But, the real axle will only hold enough to reach the fill...

Too much gear lube

Need some advise. After driving about 15 miles yesterday I pulled the '30 town sedan into the garage and decided to check the level in the rear axle. When I pulled the top plug the gear lube gushed...

Re: Homemade Radiator Mascots

When I bought mine thirty years ago there was a racoon tail tied to the radiator neck. It didn't stay long.

Re: Radiator Bracket Repair

What Gary said. Several years ago I had the same problem. I took it to our local radiator shop and they soldered it back on, boiled out, and repainted it for about $75. Well worth the money.

Re: Jazz Age '28 Sport Coupe on Hemmings Auction

I tend to agree that this car is over done. My '30 town sedan is restored to original but I never get the prize. It usually goes to the guy driving a car that is heavily modified but looks original....

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe

Greasing the inside of the exhaust system only works if your car has hydraulic bumper bolts.

Re: Second gear

Sounds to me like the round ball on the bottom of the shifter is now worn to a square ball. Don't ask me how I know.

Re: Cooling Air Flow Experiment

I have to agree with Bob. He's in cold New York and I'm in cold Ohio. We can't drive 'em in the winter so we play with them. Keeps the mind active. Mine cools fine too but why not experiment and...

Re: What is that racket?????

Gary, Bob is sort of laid up at the moment. I don't know when we will get to it, but all the advice we've been given here at the Barn has been well received. We're pretty sure it's the loose dipper...

Re: Zenith Carb: New vs. Rebuilt

Oh, I don't know, guys. The day I received my very first Social Security check my wife and I drove to Snyder's and I bought a new Zenith. That's been 12 years ago and I haven't had a bit of trouble...

Re: Ford Yard

A few years ago an old timer walked up to my "A" and rapped on the fender and said "you know boy, they don't make 'em like they used to." I told him that the "A" has more than 20 grease fittings on...

What is that racket?????

My friend, Bob, dropped the pan on his '29 tudor. He took out the dipper tray and cleaned everything. After putting it all back together the engine made a terrible clatter. We're wondering if the...

Re: Ford Yard

As I was walking into the garage the other day I marveled that my 1930 Model A town sedan was parked next to my wife's 2020 Ford Escape. What a difference 90 years makes!

Modern Points and Condenser

Last night I watched Paul Shinn talk about modern points in a model A. He said he didn't like the "moderns" because you can't find a good condenser. Well, I've had modern points in my A for about...

Re: Interesting Link about Manifold Heaters

Shrew01, Thanks for this link. I had no trouble loading it.
As I looked thru the many different types I noticed the Red Head heater. My '30 town sedan has a hole (now covered by a piece of...
