Re: Exhaust Fumes

I was getting an exhaust smell inside the passenger compartment of my '31. Turns out that sometime in the past someone had run over something (I don't remember doing it) and put a gash on the bottom...

Re: Too much gear lube

Re: Watching YouTube videos pertaining to Model-A repair or restoration...

Re: I give up

I think you’re off a decimal point - up and down play should be 0.003”, not 0.03”. But I do agree, 0.018” is excessive. Not sure how you do that unless you omit the spacer at the bottom?

Whether...

Re: Front Hub Stuck to Brakes

Mike - you didn’t say whether there is a lip on the inner circumference of the drums. If there isn’t, then you could try gentle pull with a puller while tapping around the drum to get the shoes to...

Re: Ruidoso MAFCA meet

Years ago I was riding a motorcycle from Phoenix to Yuma in early June - not the best planning, I admit. I couldn’t leave Phoenix until 10am, and it was 110F. I stopped in Gila Bend for some fluids...

Re: Ruidoso MAFCA meet

I’ll be in one of the groups from San Jose (I’m in TK and SK’s group) noodling along at about 260 miles/day. Nk, I’d love to meet you and any other barners face to face. Synchro, should be able to...

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

Come to think of it, one of our guys lost his tailpipe on a tour I was on. Lost the rear clamp bolt. We found another one among us and on we went.

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

And chances are, if you have #3 you probably won’t need #1 or #2.

But you might find yourself on YouTube…

Re: Tools/supplies needed while traveling

Things I’ve either had, or traveling companions have had, fail on the road that I’ve not seen mentioned:

—Timing gear (and gaskets to replace it)
—Radiator hoses and clamps
—Radiator cap gasket...

Re: Model A serial number verification

California has a process where individuals can be licensed to verify VIN. My 30 Town Sedan body is off the frame right now, I intend to get one of these guys in to verify the frame vs engine vs...

Re: Tight Fit for Inner Wheel Bearing

Yes, it appears that spindle shaft has been peened (not “preened”), that’s what the dots are. As mentioned, likely because a bearing has spun in the past. Hand peening like that can lead to the...

Re: White walls

Actually I have a set of black metal discs and those stainless band tread covers, but those rattle something fierce. Hopefully at Turlock next year I can find a couple of cheap whitewalls to use as...

Re: White walls

I think this is another one of those topics like “what’s the best oil” and “antifreeze or not” that we’ll never resolve.

FWIW, I have whitewalls on the four corners and two fender-mounted spare...

Re: Washer for Rear Backing Plate

While you are at it, suggest you get a new set of the special nuts to be sure all of your hardware is correct. BTW, last set of the new bolts I ordered were just a hair too large to go through the...

Re: removing hood rods?

Are you talking about the three rods hinging the hood panels? If so, remove the hood, stand it on end, and soak each of the hinge points with penetrating oil repeatedly. Repeat until tapping gets...

Re: Distributor won't drop in fully...

I’ve had a couple of replacement lower shafts that had this problem, in my case it was at the collar at the bottom of the distributor, not at the oil pump gear. I removed the collar and found that...

Re: I give up

If spraying starting fluid made a change to how the engine runs, in your case it killed the engine you have a leak at the manifold that needs to be fixed.

I'm not sure why you are continuing to...

Re: rod nuts...why the odd size?

I insert the spring compressor fork as low into the coil as I can, not on the bottom of the spring.

Re: Gas Station
