I'm dealing with this issue now myself with my BURTZ block. The modern valve kit sold by all the suppliers part number 6505M the valve guides are too small. Even knurling did not produce acceptable...

Dave, you might look into the BURTZ cylinder head 6.5 to 1 and the BURTZ camshaft 340 lift and more duration.
A Model B carburetor and manifold would be an improvement over stock.

I took my springs to Deaver Spring in Santa Ana California and had them re-arced.
They started out doing buggy springs in the 1800's.
