The pawl should act as a ratchet, ie no need to push the release button when activating the brake. Push the button when releasing the brake.

I would favor an Echlin 3-Ohm primary type coil. I think the IC27 has screw type terminals. Some folks like the Bosch Blue Coil and others like the Pertronix 3.0-Ohm flame thrower.
